This hallway, which I modeled after a contemporary photo I redrew from a long side profile to communicate William's movement to another region of the office. Its an interesting exercise taking a photograph in one perspective and recreating it in a completely different one, but luckily linear details like doors, halls, pipes and wiring are easy enough to adapt. I hope Ruby's fondness for William is obvious right off the bat. She's very friendly and informal to him but nonetheless a woman of focus, hardly lifting her eyes off the job. The enormous machine she's using I modeled after a punched card writer, which was a means of turning keystrokes into holes on paper cards that could be read by machinery. The interaction here is that she is receiving William's reports and converting them into data suitable for computer ingestion. There's a lot going on here, now that I think about it but I hope it makes sense. There's a connection between William and Ruby and between their work.
