Purifier commentary pg.48 (Patreon)
Content
As mentioned on the previous page's commentary, the very next we see of Tilly is in her be-masked sate with dark word balloons to match. I think I mentioned this on a much earlier post but the idea was to imply a bit of the muffling as well as a bit of darkness to the speech, a kind of authority voice. I don't do this trick a lot and maybe I could have gone even futher, but the way the hostage taker's word balloon overlaps the orderly's and is meant to indicate an interruption or impatience.I probably should have mentioned this on the previous page, but the stricken man on the floor and the orderly aiding him was there to visually tell the story of a struggle just moments earlier. With his role concluded, the supporting characters exit over the following panels discreetly but visibly. I don't use motion lines too often in Purifier because I I worry about whether they suit a more serious-toned narrative. That said, they are undeniably powerful graphical tools, so I'll drop them in just occasionally like in panel four where the hostage taker is gesturing in a circle in reference to London's city limits.Talking of, Tilly's about to tell us quite a lot about them...
