Writing dialogue for little kids is tricky because you have to put yourself quite far outside your own experience as an adult. I felt a meaningless squabble over nothing would make a good throughline for this little scene setting sequence. The ultimate purpose here is to give a small taste of the neighborhood that CRO is about to descend upon. Simple and poor urchins minding their own business before their afternoon is likely ruined by quarantine protocol. We probably won't see these specific characters again, save from nameless members of the evacuation crowd a few pages later.I made Gill stand out among the other officers by putting a gap in the crowd around her and  designing her with a unique silhouette (height, mask, hat).
