So begins the first proper action sequence since the beginning of the book, and the only one so far that's an actual battle. I've intended Purifier as roughly equal parts horror/thriller/action so there will be several more sequences like this one. Nothing so extreme as a full John Woo bloodbath (much as I enjoy those films) but a little bit of stylish gunplay.Poor Henderson gets completely coldcocked here. Any reaction he might have had is distracted by the cigarette flick (which was surprisingly difficult to find reference for that looked energetic enough to draw) and he takes a chest full of buckshot at point-blank range. To really emphasize the impact and surprise I drew him doubled over with both arms flung around and his hat thrown off. I wanted it to look like he'd been hit by a train square in the sternum. Henderson's hand falling out of frame as his silhouete is reflected in the other officer's respirator lenses captures a frozen moment of utter shock and awe that will cost him his life. I showed the single smoking barrel on the last page to setup the second shot that comes off-screen on the next page.
