Chloe's character technically is a gender-swapped extension of a character that exists in the novel to make things more impactful. In the novel his name is Yarei and while you hear about him and he is involved in the whole silver scheme he personally has basically no screen time in the novel. The whole Onion thing is because Onions are toxic for Dogs. As for that dream it's a representation of her two major fears: (Just based on the anime) One the one side the fear of becoming too invested in her relationship with Lawrence only to loose him again in what feels to her like the blink of an eye because of their different lifespans (that's why she talked about having "too much fun" with him being a problem) on the other hand, as she mentioned along the way in S1, she fears that she was away from Yoitsu too long and that there will be nothing waiting for her in Yoitsu when she returns. Well in the end they both come down to just one thing, she fears that she is gonna be all alone in the world.

I saw S&W first back in, I think 2009. It's honestly held up really well, especially the dialogue.
