I disagree with Jake about Statler’s disclosure of her intrusive thoughts. It depends on how you do it, and I thought it was the most empathetic thing Statler could have done in that moment: giving Dempsey insight as to the dark places her mind goes to when feeling very insecure. I would appreciate that as a partner. Also, not sure why Jake is poo-pooing the idea that Corona’s behavior is a result of trauma. It felt like such a dismissive response, so thank you Matt for bringing that up.

I think the main issue with Statler & Dempsey is they are not only different, but they don’t try to understand & like each other’s differences. The lack to even try & understand each perspective is a relationship failure that will lead to their breakup.

If Statler had said something like "I'm sorry, these are the thoughts popping into my head and I know they aren't true, but I'm stressed and spinning out," that might have made it better. But the way she was spouting all these things off sounded very accusatory and I don't think Dempsey has the emotional insight to know that Statler maybe just needed some reassurance.

I’m claustrophobic too, but I am absolutely fine on the Chunnel train 🤷🏻‍♀️ One of the things I miss most about living in the UK is how easy it is to get to European cities for mini-breaks 😩

Fully agree; my point was more towards Jake’s total rejection of disclosing those real thoughts as an atypical compulsion that needs to be fixed. I think that’s a very rigid stance that pathologizes her even more.

Dildo! I was in tears. Get yours honey 💅🏽 🧙🏻 I don’t find Josh to be a bad guy per se, I think it would be frustrating to not be understood when you know the other person is saying otherwise. Lily won’t be vulnerable enough to stop and say “I’m sorry, can you repeat that or say it into the app?” Instead she jumps to conclusions and then drama of “well then go home” she knows he can’t work for 5 YEARS but she shows love by buying him things and resenting him for it. They need Adele to come by 🎶you could’ve typed it alllllll into Hanziiiiii 🎶

I agree with Kat. My husband deals with the intrusive thoughts/excessive anxiety (wife is leaving, wife is cheating, etc) and I agree with Dempsey that it is very hurtful to hear these things (we've been married over 20 years but this only came on in the last few years). But when he verbalizes, "I know these thoughts aren't true, but they are intruding into my head," that puts me in a space to be able to be supportive more than hurt.

hi hi - i’m autistic and i am an adoptee and queer and and and …. i think what’s happening with statler is part spectrum/adhd stuff but also the abandonment trauma is big with her. she’s given up her whole life for a plan that is terrible for her needs. and she did it bc she feared losing dempsey. and that’s why the timeline rush for her on all relationships (i have ZERO experience w this 🙄). lots of folks on the spectrum get taken advantage of bc many of us are too trusting and too empathetic - it is an incorrect assumption that autistic folks overall struggle with not having empathy. it is very misunderstood. i do think they are a terrible match and neither statler nor dempsey seem to know enough about statler’s autism and how it affects her day to day (specifically bc that was her latest diagnosis). and in the clip they ran of the tell-all statler said she wanted to support dempsey for a COUPLE OF MONTHS.

I’ve been on the train in the Chunnel. It’s no big deal. You can’t see anything and I read my book the entire time. The weirdest part was when a bunch of 17 yr old schoolboys began to sing the French National anthem when we came up onto French soil. I was like: How weird and nationalistic. 😂

Me - last month- and I had a panic attack because I wasn’t expecting it- this was the tunnel over to Issaquah. I didn’t know it was a tunnel situation AND I was behind the wheel. I felt all the sensations Poodle was describing and it was HORRIBLE. I can do a tunnel driving if I can see the other end- but otherwise I’ve become extremely claustrophobic. I’ve done the Chunnel train twice and the first time I needed an Ativan; the second time I was OK.

I’m with you. I immediately go into flight tv mode with those shows. I was an editor for Discovery Channel. The greatest show I ever saw was Jane Goodall with the chimps. Flint’s life…the entire community. Everyone should watch it to learn about their emotions. How evolved they are. Like elephants, pigs, everything!! The only dif between us & wildlife is speech.

Agreed, I see this as a fear of abandonment. She is sharing her intrusive thoughts and Dempsey should be a little more understanding bc she is neurotypical and has “never experienced anxiety” which is wild to me. Statler doesn’t lack empathy, she just expresses it in ways that may not align with what is the dominant cultural norm. Plus I’m sure it must be a lot of grief in finding out an identity such as this later in life.

You don't even know you're in the Chunnel. I thought I would be freaked out but I didn't know when we went in or came out. The Chunnel is a train, you just put your car on it. I don't think you can drive it.

I am deeply suspicious of Josh and am also triggered as hell by him because I have an ex who shared some traits with him. I get the feeling that he is putting on an act for the camera and is probably more aggressive toward Lily when the crew isn't there - I'm not accusing him of anything physical by any means, but I just get the vibe that the Mr. Nice Guy shtick is an act for the cameras. It's also striking how everything seems to be about Josh's Big Feelings but he doesn't seem to ever ask Lily how she feels or try to empathize with her. He's absolutely my least favorite cast member this season and I think it becomes more evident with every episode why he's been divorced three times.

OMG, totally agree about James & Tata feeling like heavy weight. I find her in particular so difficult to watch. I can cry a bit too, especially when frustrated, but she cries at everything & it’s too much. Plus he is just pathetic. I just always wanna skip over them.

Also, we have car boot sales here in Australia. It’s basically a community market, & they tend to be hosted at a school. People just selling second things they no longer need. There usually a small fee to set up your car, which is used as fundraising for the school, generally a sports team or school play. I guess a flea market would be the US equivalent
