I know this is an older ep but just recently discovered u guys, what u just said about losing weight to hold onto your old self🙏🙏🙏. The universe meant fir me to listen to this older ep tonight. Tampa girl, 40 something, single mom of 3 girls. My dad is the product of a 16 yr old German girl knocked up in WWII Germany by a US soldier from PA who was already married but then she got introduced to a USAF Seargant from TN who was barely 20 yrs old. He hoped a train from Sherwood TN in the mountains & lied about his age to get into the army & then became USAF (my dads backstory). Dad then met my mom, a cuban immigrant living in the projects with her single mother, not knowing english or having any real skills other than cleaning & sewing. That’s my Southern story ya’ll cabrones❤️🙏😘

So….I’m 53 and I’ve never heard of anyone passing down a bra to a daughter like a damn heirloom. I have known women to possibly borrow a bra that they don’t own that works with an outfit. Bras are expensive and if you only need it for one event and one outfit, borrowing one is somewhat common with a person you are comfortable with…even your mom. I have seen vintage lace nightgowns or what they called “wedding sets” back in the day be kept and passed down.

There’s no reason to pass down a bra as an heirloom unless like great great great great granny Daisy sewed it herself and no else one has ever worn it. Even then I’m still not sure.

The issue with Angie is that she’s completely working in traditional gender roles. That women and only women wear bras and panties and men wear basketball shorts & graphic tees. Her idea of gender expression is completely limited. Shay is a woman simply because she says she is no matter what she wears or how she expresses that gender. Angie is putting the toxic binary onto Shay.

Bras shouldn’t be passed down because they need to be replaced fairly often! Also- clothes should fit bodies, bodies don’t need to fit clothes.

I have a sister-in-law who LOVES getting attention. I’ve noticed there’s a trend of her getting pregnant (she’s very fertile) not long after someone in the family has a baby. She sees the attention that someone else is getting and she wants it. Well, no one in the family had had kids for a while and she had the youngest grandchild (4 years old at the time). They were supposedly done. My husband and I had just had a baby and not long after, she got pregnant and made the point to tell me that my daughter wouldn’t be the youngest grandbaby. Well, about a year later, I got pregnant with not just twins but my 2nd set of twins. I could tell it was killing her. She couldn’t have any more kids so the very next day after we announced my pregnancy, she went out and bought a brand new car and made a big deal about it.

The “passing down a bra” thing yucked me a bit as a plus sized person because it reminded me of how my mom (who is much smaller than me) would pass down clothing as “aspirational” to fit into the version of herself she understood vs my reality as a larger person. So whether the mom intended to or not, it read as a bit backhanded to me when she set the bra that was clearly too small for Shay as a “goal”.

I live in a smaller city so there were only a few options and I honestly went with the cheapest. I got 1 syringe of juvederm and after a week of swelling they looked amazing. I think they key is not to over do it.

Seriously! That whole segment with Shay made me so uncomfortable. She didn’t seem to have any say on what was happening and didn’t really seem ready to try on a bra in that moment, let alone one that wasn’t fitted properly. I hated having her take her top off the way they did on camera, not help her with the bra right away, tell fitting into it was a “goal”, and then stuffed it to give her confidence? Her mom could’ve said, “your first bra will be special. When you’re ready, and if you’d like me there, I’d like to accompany you to a store for a fitting so we can get you something special that makes you feel good.” Of course she would never but that’s what I’d want to see.
