I’ve been a stepparent for almost 12 years. I do not understanding that “I am the first person in your life” attitude. Many stepparents, specifically “stepmothers” do have that outlook about it. It’s very toxic. You are the wife or partner, not his child. There are no levels or 1st, 2nd place. There is no competition. She is his child and you are his partner, totally different relationships and dynamics. He totally plays a part in it! He should be “leading” the relationships in the way that allows his partner and daughter to NOT have that outlook towards each other. Why did he plan her trip when his daughter was there knowing the mess it would make?? The bio parent can make or break the relationships between their partner and their children. I speak from experience! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Assel does seem like an awful person, tbh, and shouldn’t be in a relationship with anyone that has children. Robert is the typical “weekend dad” or “Disney Dad” that is commonly found in blended families. No expectations, no boundaries set, you get the picture. If this relationship lasts it will end up like Eric and Leida where Eric has no relationship with his daughter. So sad that some parents allow this to happen to themselves and their children.

Google says that Colombians require a return ticket and “proof of funds”, which is a common requirement for tourism in a lot of countries. It sounds like he didn’t have that, since they called her at one point and asked about earnings. You need to have a bank statement showing that you have money to support the “tourism” that you’re doing. It was right there on the Google, so she just didn’t do sufficient research.

I thiiiiiiiink she was saying the tags on the suitcases said Bogata...like they were arriving from Bogata Columbia Airport. She was hoping he would be right behind them. I don't believes she's acquainted herself with the necessary accents and inflections 😂 at least she isn't out here te amo-ing everywwhere.

Omg! The jlo music reenactment needs to never happen again. I had to pull my earbuds out because it was so extremely loud in my ears and that pitch is wrong. Please never do that again.

So frustrating! Cray Cray mentioned something about a Katie and Alejandro spoiler. Well now I know whether I wanted to or not. Maybe don’t spoil an entire season Poodz. It’s not that deep but yeah it was a bummer to find out when I didn’t want to.

Extremely well put! The most disturbing thing to me on any of these shows is when a child/children are involved in this way. I can distance myself and laugh at other things, but not this topic. Thank you for articulating many of the thoughts I had when watching the show! 😁

Arwen is only 16!

I LOVE Assel. If I made pierogi from scratch and someone was like "Ewwwww, food I'm not familiar with" I would have a hell of a lot more of a reaction than Assel did. She was exceptionally polite around Robert's bratty daughter. I would be SO excited if someone made me pierogi and little fried Kazakh breads. I think she definitely has a sense of humor about herself, we've just seen very little of her so far, and she's not an effusively affectionate person (like most of the former USSR, re: like when Yara talks about Jovi).

Diana Lee

I thought they said Robert’s daughter was 17. Which is not an adult in my world. These situations are challenging for people with far more life experience.

Jude

I think if Assel was nice to her, and had befriended her from the start, the whole food thing would’ve gone completely differently

When Louise says: “I don’t know why no one believes our relationship!” I may or may not have shrieked with laughter. I’m with Poodle. I feel nothing for this woman except a tired sigh. (But Matt Sharp is tricksy and I’ll probably end up liking her)

Mert’s stock plummeted on this episode, ugh…how disappointing. I love Shane so much, I want to be her bestie and hang out with her at the pub! I’ll be bummed if her heart gets broken!

Fully here for the "let's get this straight, I do what I want" proclamation -- because that turns into the "if you get sideways, I'll take [cherished object or collection] in the divorce JUST FOR FUN" proclamation I need to see what Roberts ex looks like, because I feel like she looks like his daughter. Mattie you're the worst roommate for that j lo wake up call 😅

Heidi

I too was thinking "cake cake cake.... Is that buttercream!?* When seeing that scene

I think what Louise was trying to say is that they planned for Jose to be granted a visa on entry. Some countries have agreements where citizens of designated countries can apply for and be granted 90 day tourist visas 'on entry.' ex. US/UK. But there is absolutely no way that she genuinely believed Colombia was on that list of countries. Assel is an unrepentant biatch and I kind of love her for it. I'm not sure what would make Robert such a trophy, but to each their own I guess.

SPOT ON POODS! “I do what I want!” But I didn’t get to this point until I was 40. The magical gateway to my majestic self love.

At 39, I realized I need to re-write the fairy tale and at 52 I haven't looked back. Mattie - I can't even imagine being in bed with him, I have a hair thing and I can't get past that.

I don't blame Arwen for not eating the pierogies. For all she knew, those things were dripping with cyanide. Even Bella was giving them the side eye. Robert may not be the greatest guy, but I'm sure she's tired of watching and listening to her dad getting put down and insulted, which is why she set a boundary and said she's not going to be there when Assel is.

Jude

Right?! Arwen seems like an average 16 year-old girl; if Assel had befriended her& ever shown her kindness or even just nice-ness, I’m sure that whole thing would have played out differently. She might even have helped her cook

Maria Gallegos

I knew the minute I saw this woman that she was not going to get along well with the daughter. She sure does have a large stick up her bum! It’s sad and pathetic that she feels the need to compete with a teenager.

Colombians don’t need visas to travel to the UK for tourism. I think the problem was that she tried to sneak him in as a tourist when she should have applied for a spousal visa. Tourists can stay for 3 months provided they can support themselves financially and have a return ticket. The issue for immigration/ the UK government is that, as a member country of the European convention on Human Rights, if they let Jose through his rights under the ECHR kick in and he can stay for as long as it takes his visa to be granted. If Louise waited for a spousal visa she would have to be apart from him for months. I think she knew what she was doing.

Val McCue

ASShole did it for me when she called Bella, the adorable dog, “stinky”, what kind of person bullies a dog? Nothing to like about this bish. She’s not even that stylish.

Kelly Savoie Samora

I agree! Mert’s behavior showed a totally different side that is most definitely not worthy of Shane’s awesomeness.

Moy

There's no way she's dumb enough to think it doesn't look suspicious that this man child you've unsuccessfully tried to bring over before, is now showing up as a tourist 3 days after you married him on your not at all suspicious whirlwind trip to Bogota. Actually she might be, but it's definitely some serious Karen shit.

Becca Schall

To me the specific irritating thing about Louise is the one facial expression she has in every single talking head. It’s the plaintive look paired with excessive head-nodding (“you agree I’m the victim here, right??”) that gives her this performative, martyr-y vibe. Once I noticed it I couldn’t stop noticing it and it is so. off-putting. Also I don’t think she has smiled once in the entire show.

Customs can be so weird if you're visiting a significant other. My husband is Canadian, and he was turned around at the border 3x over the 5 years we were doing long distance. They'd keep asking for more and more "ties to his country". No matter how much proof he had that he was returning, They accused him of trying to come here to work or come here to live illegally. Once we started the visa process, he showed them the open visa case and he never had an issue again.

Amy Diehl

Ugh I love Shane & Mert so of course he's being controlling 😭😭😭
