Fun fact about this arc: it’s called the three stories arc because the LN volume it covers was composed of 3 shorter stories. This episode is adapting one of those stories. However, another one of those stories was cut from season one of Index and then adapted as the first episode of Index II.

Hells yeah!!! I forgot how much I enjoyed this episode. The "Kamijou Faction" shite is a pretty big damn deal, and I like this exposition episode starting it off. In fact, I love Toaru so much probably because I've ALWAYS been into magic v. science stories. Toaru does heaps of versus bouts and team ups between the ability users and magic users, and that is magnificent! Damn happy you're watching this AND now Re: Zero and SAO. I'd end up canceling any other Patreons I've subbed to to stick with these series.

Refreshing to see Touma fight someone on the tamer end of the power scale. Aurelius, Accelerator, a freaking angel... These are not foes that some unknown factor like Touma should be able to beat. Well, he didn't fight the angel, and it wasn't really trying all that hard against Kanzaki since it was just waiting for The Sweep to finish manifesting, and both Aurelius and Accelerator got beat in part because of their over-confidence. Meanwhile, we have seen a couple times now that as scrappy as Touma is, he struggles against foes that actually know how to fight. He's gonna be in a tough spot once he inevitably goes up against someone that is both insanely powerful AND competent.
