There is actually an opening for this episode, but it is only in the blu-ray version, so going forward do try to react to the blu-ray version of the episodes, since some other arcs have their opening only in the blu-ray version. As for the beginning where it says this is episode 3, the off season books are mostly a bunch of short stories, with this story being the third in the book it was adapted from. This season does not adapt the stories in order.

There are 3 OPs for Off & Monster season, however depending on what version they're watching they may not play. There is also an episode 6.5 called "A Cruel Fairy Tale: The Beautiful Princess" which you might have to find seperately, and it's meant to be watched between episode 6 and 7 as a prologue to that arc. It's very important to the story.

The studio took a lot of liberty with the sequence of the adaptation compared to the books in this season. We start off with the last chapter/story of volume 19, skip volume 20 (for now), adapt the entire 21st volume, go back to 20 and adapt the first half, skip the second, skip volume 22 and end with the adaptation of volume 23 that starts the monster season. Might sound confusing but it does make sense in a way, so i understand the decision. You probably wont even notice, so all this was just a "nice to know" kind of information. They will probably just put all the skipped stories in their own respective season later on or something.
