So you think Oldbaru wanted to inflict pain and suffering to Newbaru...I know Subaru has a lot of self hatred but you think he hates himself enough just to put Newbaru into a situation where he is terrified by everyone and is completely traumatized? Well you may or may not be wrong actually the only way to truly know is by binging the series and getting caught up with the current episode dropping tomorrow. Glad you are enjoying the series and I am rooting for Newbaru to pass Oldbaru's death record. So far Oldbaru is in the lead with 23ish deaths and Newbaru is coming up with 2 deaths let me know who you are rooting for!

For the Meili/Subaru cut content. Basically during that year time skip between season 2 and 3, Subaru spared Meili as he saw her as a child that was manipulated and didn't deserve death as she probably didn't know any better. So while imprisoned he would talk to her while bringing her meals and making her stuffed toys.

No, when Subaru went down to see Meili in her cell, she remarked on him coming back down to see her. Though, the anime damn sure should have shown him bringing her a new plushie to sweeten the deal of going to the Watchtower, and them discussing his talents with sewing.
