DIA DID IT SHE BROKE THE RBG JYNX!!! SHE FINALLY WON A RACE THAT RBG SAID SHE WOULD WIN

Tristan Allen

Alright, time for Episode 4, where the director tries very hard to make the audience think that Kitasan is in a slump and sucks at racing. The training camp is pretty cool though and it's nice to see Bourbon and Rice again. Dia-chan loses to Divinity (Dee Majesty) in the Satsuki Sho. Leontes slammed into her and it was determined to be a foul. Many believe he would have won if it weren't for that interference since the race was so close. ...And then Kitasan's win at the Spring Tenno Sho, the most challenging and prestigious of the spring G1 races, is presented as just a still frame with no dialogue or anything. Not even a minute from the training camp needed to be cut to show off the race and her progress. Cheval Grand got 3rd, but we don't get to see her run for the first time. Imo there was an intentional agenda by the director/producer to downplay Kitasan Black's excellence and exaggerate her losses to make Kitasan more pitiable. Anyway, on to E5 which opens up to Satono Diamond losing the Derby to To-Car (Makahiki) by a nose. Divinity (Dee Majesty) who won the Satsuki Sho placed 3rd. Leontes got 5th again without getting a foul this time. Duramente is returning after both injury and a very decent stint in Dubai. I didn't catch the first time I watched this episode, but it seems Air Groove is now working for her mother, who is Duramente's trainer. Air Groove and her mother Dyna Carle have a loving but turbulent relationship in the game. Irl Air Groove is Duramente's granddam. Duramente was poised to win the race, but his tendonitis acts up again. Despite the (pun intended) charlie horse he keeps running and just manages to pass Kitasan Black at the last meter. Insanely close race! Or I would say that, but out of nowhere 8th favorite River Light (Marialight) slides ahead and wins her one and only G1 race to everyone's shock and awe! I love her jubilance in the background as Kitasan and Duramente are having their moment. Anyway, BAKUSHIN!!! Okay fun is over members of the Satono family who fail to perform well in races get kicked out of the house and disowned. Classic SEGA. But Satono Diamond breaks the curse and wins a G1 trophy! And by 2.5 lengths, which is a pretty decent lead. Ironically another Satono, Etoile, placed last. On to episode 7? Wow, long video! Kitasan Black wins the G2 Kyoto Daishoten, which is completely skipped, and then wins the Japan Cup. You know, the race that the entirety of S1 built up towards. And it gets like five seconds. Keep in mind Tokai Teio also won the Japan Cup and it was skipped entirely like it never happened, so at least Kitasan gets a little recognition. Sounds of Earth placed 2nd, and Cheval Grand placed 3rd. Once again, Cheval Grand is as much of a victim of Kitasan's wins being skipped over. She's at about the same tier, but we've never seen her race once yet. The 2016 Arima Kinen mirrors S2's 1992 Tenno Sho. Like Teio, Kitasan lacks the same focused drive to win that Dia-chan/McQueen had. As such, Dia-chan claims her second G1. Kitasan places 2nd. All Haiyu (Gold Actor) continues to place well but not get much attention since she's not licensed. We finally get to see Cheval Grand run, but she only gets 6th. Sounds of Earth, as inconsistent as always, finished 8th. The focus on Kitasan is off for sure, and as I said before I believe it was a very intentional choice. Even though she's won three G1s already, it doesn't feel like it. The only time she's failed to place was in the Derby in episode 1. But it feels like she almost always loses because so little time is put into her victories. Oh well, there's still lots to enjoy about S3, so I'll look forward to the next batch!
