Ooh, Higurashi? Very exciting! I have not watched this show in about a decade. Good ol' Studio Dean animation: simultaneously terrible and incredibly charming. Quick note: "Higurashi" is the name of a very loud species of perennial evening cicadas in Japan. They're the ones making the haunting chirping in the background of the ending scene. You will get well-acquainted to their melody. The Japanese name "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" could be translated as "Where the Cicadas Cry" hence the subtitle in the English translation, "Higurashi" When They Cry." The Japanese name could also be easily misspelled to become "Where the Cicadas Die," so it's a bit of a pun too. So, due to the nature of what this show is, I will refrain from writing long paragraphs explaining the lore. That is something you will have to uncover for yourself. Also because it's been so long I'm sure to misremember things. The original visual novel is near and dear to me and was an intense labor of love by a single indie developer. In fact, Higurashi was one of the first indie visual novels to ever get a professional anime adaptation. The anime is in a way a rather different story despite following the plot of of the vn to a tee because there was just no way to fit the huge amount of content into an anime. So while the plot is the same and all of the characters are present, things move at an incredibly rapid pace and a lot of detail gets lost. But that's okay. This anime is full of an incredible amount of charm and love by the studio and the voice actors. I hope you enjoy and don't lose too much sleep over it.

Hinamizawa, the village where this takes place, is based on the historic village of Shirakawa-go that can still be visited today and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

18:25 Feminism tearing down men like always! 😝 This one episode has annoyed tf outta me, confused me, and made me think that 20% of the mystery will be crazy obvious and the rest will just be gore fetish. I now remember that I never meant to watch the old original seasons for a good reason. Well, my excitement makes SAO feel like it comes out once a month and Toaru gets posted every two weeks, so watching a different series reaction could fill some time. Honk.

20:35 Dude....I thought exactly the same. Although, I would give HUGE props if this old school anime actually had a class rep-type girl draw a dick on anyone.
