So great to see your reactions to this series and honestly you got a large part of everything spot on. Tsukiko could've been replaced with any of the other characters, hell any of the people on planet earth. We all want to escape, to not have to face reality and use a Maromi to keep us safe from the world around us and a Shonen Bat to pass the blame. But like Ikari realised and eventually Tsukiko, there's no use doing that, you have to face reality eventually or you become trapped and for Ikari he wasn't at his wife side when she eventually passed. She faced reality, she accepted her fate, but Ikari instead decided to hide in a peaceful world of nostalgia, another means we try to escape. Such a beautiful final episode, never fails to make me tear up, especially when Tsukiko accepts reality, accepts she was a big part to blame in what happened to her dog and finally surfacing from the water that kept her submerged for so long. As for the ending, well it might seem happy and peaceful but in actuality the ending is kind of dark. A new mascot has been made, a new "Maromi" for society to hide behind from reality, the same old excuses and problems being thrown around by everyone and Maniwa has taken on the role of the old man/master, his hair having turned white from stress and trauma. It reveals in all likelihood there was a form of Shonen Bat before this series and the old man was the Maniwa in that event and that there will be another after Maniwa. It's possible that Maniwa when doing his equation saw the same room number that started it all, making him realise it's happened again. The final post credit scene being narrated by Maniwa instead of being the old man who gives the preview, showing that society will drown again and again in escapism and paranoia, choosing to escape from reality to deal with their trauma and never dealing with it directly. A nihilistic but poignant message and in this day and age where mental health and dealing with it is as important as ever, we must deal with our problems in reality (therapy, talking honestly with others, being compassionate) and not in escapism and societal disconnect. P.S Thanks Crimy for suggesting this, Paranoia would never have won a poll and it would've been an absolute shame if Khan never saw it. Really deep and masterful piece of media that I'm glad Khan enjoyed so much

Fam what a genius journey this was, I watched this show a long time ago, watching it with you felt like a completely new journey and how I viewed it truly changed, and I’m so happy I recommended this banger, I really wouldn’t change it for anything else especially after seeing what you took away from it! I felt like it truly expanded your perspective on the anime medium as a whole, it simply was a unique journey I wanted to share with you because I can tell you would enjoy far more than the box of mainstream animes people could put you in (and put themselves in tbh), there’s so much more to experience especially in the form of anime because it has so much more freedom of expression than movies and shows, which brings us back to how goated this author (Satoshi Kon) is because his movies inspired some of the best Hollywood films like (Inception, Black Swan, and Everything everywhere all at once). And about Paranoia, the way you’re breaking it all down is magnificent to say the least, you’re on the nose with so many aspects, like your personal story you said before about being overworked with carrying the dishes and flipping out because of someone saying “chop chop” (totally understandable btw xD) that’s indeed one of the messages of Paranoia Agent, most Japanese people are insanely worked, and it’s the reason Shounen Bat was reborn. Baker did a great job explaining his interoperation of the episode, to add on it, Satoshi Kon stated in one of his blogs that the idea a of "self-responsibility'' is what inspired the making of this story, if you think about it is really all about lack of accountability, I mean Tsukiko lied about letting go of the dog, and the man driving the car decided to drive away not even looking back at what he hit in the street, and you can say the same about most incidents but of course it’s much deeper than that. So I want to touch upon something else, which is about “escaping your situation”, as episode 8 with the 3 people becoming ghosts, after all the revelations in the end, my personal theory is that the show was telling us there’s no reward of “eternal rest and nothingness” if you took your own life. You’ll still be present just without being actually alive, almost teaching the viewer this easy-escape from your issues was never an option, but you’ll be forced to live it out as a ghost and figure it out from there until you can rest, so might as well do that while you’re still alive and have people and the world to interact with; face your problems head on and solve them yourself. And yes this totally could be interpreted in a religious way. But overall Tsukiko was suppose to create a popular new character and, she really did, his name was Shounen Bat. We could go on and on with the analysis as this anime is just *chef’s kiss* and is enriched with life lessons as you’ve already explained in the reactions, I do believe you Khan underestimate your analysis of anime, trust me most anime fans don’t understand and feel immersed in stories as you do lol. In the end, loved the journey and shout out to Baker’s analysis too (xD) and everyone who watched alongside us, always love Khan, may Allah bless your family too! And Goodbye Shounen Bat.

Great interpretation of the episode and the series as a whole man, your input was always the cherry on top after finishing those episodes. I think you'd enjoy my comment on this post as well if you got the time lol! Love fam.

Loved watching this one with you Brobro 🔥🔥🔥

Can someone tell me if khan has seen edgerunners?

Baker

I agree, Khan really does underestimate his ability to realise something that has a meaning to it. The only time I think he struggles with it is when something is being really verbose or convoluted in how it goes about it, to the point that reading the subtitles and trying to extrapolate what's happening on screen is too much to process. Paranoia and Satoshi Kon in general is a lot more visual and interpretive, meaning the tools are given and there is an answer but you can go over and take your time with it til it's clear. Really like your personal theory for episode 8, couples with a few of my interpretations for that episode, especially how dark and tongue in cheek that condoms part is at the end pretty much saying in my eyes "Might as well wrap one on if they're going to waste it" in regards to those who choose that way out of their problems. Suicide is never the answer and you can find those connections in real life as they did in death, never lose those hope cigarettes ;) Appreciate the shoutout and thanks again for putting this anime on Khan's radar, never would've made it otherwise and hope that Khan can watch more hidden gem animes like this in the future, would be dope to see. At the very least Satoshi Kon's works are cerebral greats that most if not all his other works are one and done films that Khan could easily check out sometime.

Besides Megalobox I think Fire Force would be a good show for Khan to watch through.

Saeed iCrimy

You phrased it better than I could with "Suicide is never the answer and you can find those connections in real life as they did in death" that's truly is a beautiful sentiment. Also recently in one of Khan's twitch streams he said "some animes are really dogey like Perfect Blue" it seemed like he tried to watch it a long time ago and stopped halfway thru during THAT scene.. and that was unfortunate to hear because knowing khan now he can probably look past it and focus on the other aspects of the movie especially knowing it's by Satoshi Kon, but who knows if he'd ever give it another shot. Nonetheless love man! It was a great journey and hopefully we get to experience similar bangers with khan soon :)
