Khan let me you something interesting. In 2020 only 33 chapters got released. Toei had to cover these chapters in 48 episodes in 2021, which means one episode is around 2/3 of a chapter. So you have the choice: Waiting almost always 2 weeks for the next chapter or waiting one week for an episode with around 2/3 content from a chapter. I like it way more to get one piece weekly, so I'm anime only, but it's like I said your choice. PS: Today we got even 76% of the chapter because the chapter for this episode did only have 13 pages

How would you cover 33 chapters within 48 episodes a year? If toei wouldn't add scenes, that were actually canon but get offscreened in the manga, they have to stretch the scenes like they did in the past a lot. They do a really good job, if you want to complain, then complain about it being weekly and not seasonal. But would you want 2 years without one piece to get 22 episodes? I doubt it

I think people's perception of how an anime covers a manga is soooo wrong. If an anime is running weekly and there are 33 chapters a year, the anime can only cover around 2/3 of a chapter. And if a chapter only has 13 pages like this chapter, the anime can only cover 9-10 pages, which would be a 10 minute episode without adding extra scenes. In this case they added the sanji scene that was probably offscreened in the manga (I don't really know if it was offscreened, because I'm anime-only but I think so), so Toei did a really good job with this episode.

yeah they could do that but that wouldn't be enough. To have seasonal quality episodes, there has to be at least one year of filler to give us 20 really good episodes. Even that 6 week break when toei got hacked won't have a huge impact of making the pacing better

I wouldn't have cared if they added more filler later down the line but to fuck with the pacing like that after all the hype has been built from episode 1015 is just stupid. Wouldn't have cared if it was like 2 mins but it was fucking a quarter of the episode wasted on that bullshit. I think they should've covered that whole chapter at least. Also the manga is almost 50 chapters ahead by this point

they kinda had to make time for 1017. They are prioritizing and going in on directing and animation for 1017 is what i heard.

The manga is so much ahead because of the 6 week break when toei got hacked. But they couldn't see that coming and they animated the episodes probably 10 episodes ahead at this point, the impact on the pacing due to the hack will probably show itself in the 1030s imo

Not to add filler to key and hype moments to kill the flow? They easily could've focused on this fight completely in this episode and once the story actually moves last to other bits add them then. There can be good filler but it needs to be added carefully. Show the Samurai fights when the story cuts there. Improve them, prolong them and make those interesting. Don't pretend this is the only way to do it. Last episode added scenes but they actually improved the experience. Imagine them then adding Sanji simp moments or Brook making a Skull joke and it takes 5mins+
