"Up to once a week" and "maybe two per month" is mostly the same in my book. Just do what comes naturally. People like receiving notifications, and those who don't know usually how to disable them (via Patreon in this case).

Fair point! In my head, a couple of messages that come once a month (like this month's August update and this survey) feels different than having one come in maybe once a week. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't sending out too many; I don't want to irritate people :)
