Hey hey, All~!

We made it back to Japan unscathed, just a bit tired. It was an absolute joy seeing everyone and hanging out. But time was crazy tight and I didn't get to do or see a lot of what I'd planned. So sorry G and T 😭

Three weeks in the States. One and a half in Omaha visiting my parents and as many friends as I could squeeze in, then one and a half in PA with Richard's family.

Oh!

Meet mom and dad 👋 I really want to go back next year. Hopefully, plane tickets, timing, and all the stars will align. Then we can do more and see more people.

I must say for the most part I was overwhelmed with how sweet and chatty people were. I miss that friendly back and forth you strike up with someone while walking through a store. There were a couple of incidences. Like the guys who were right jerks on the flight from Omaha to Atlanta. I was pretty adamant about wearing masks in airports and on flights. Our parents are aging and my immune system ain't great. While boarding, I just happened to have to stop right next to a couple of good ol' boys and they had opinions about people who wear masks (me).Hey! I discovered a new superpower. I can turn off my hearing. I really didn't want to say something snarky and get beat up on a plane and then end up being a stupid viral video, so I managed to turn off the listening part of my brain for a bit.

In other news, I actually had to do some work while traveling and then got an unexpected email asking to write up a pitch for an idea that I've been wanting to do by myself for awhile now. I'll stay mum for the time being, but if they pick it up, you'll be the first to know. I'm super excited about it 🤞.

Another bit of news is I was also approached about doing a mini series of sponsored episodes. We're still hashing out the details. But I quite like the company and think the listeners will, too. That said, Richard is going to make "ad free" versions to post here for patrons.

Oh, oh! The top photo is in the Strand bookstore in NYC. I love that place, could spend weeks in there. Richard looked and found my book 🥳 . We also found it in a bookstore in Haneda and in Kinokuniya. That's just surreal.

Okay, so we're back home and settling in. We never got over jet lag in the States, but then ended up coming back to Japan and somehow ... have jet lag ?? Maybe our sleep is just permanently messed up. I'm sure it has to do with constantly reading the news and the roller coaster of emotions that brings on.

I'm working on a Bedtime Story and Richard found an adorable Halloween recipe that he's going to make tonight. One of us will take photos and I'll post that tomorrow as tomorrow is already Halloween in Japan! Can you believe it??!!

Everyone stay safe, please stay safe. XOXO,

t

I'm glad to hear you (plural) made it back safe and sound, albeit jet-lagged.

Glad you had a nice time in the States overall. Good job using the "mute button" superpower - very handy! Not gonna lie, one of the things that I've started to miss most about being in Japan is the feeling that wearing a mask in crowded public places isn't controversial -_- Hope your biological rhythms are able to rebalance themselves soon!

Right?! Masks are so part of the culture here if anything people think Thank you, you must be feeling ill and you're wearing a mask not to get others sick. But I was happy to see some people wear them with impunity. I was like go you! I didn't wear in New York subway, for example. Had it been more crowded maybe.

I can imagine that three weeks pretty much flew by when visiting family. I hope you can both return next year to see those who you missed this time around. The masks thing just seems weird to get fussed about as you never know who has immune system issues and what other people do really shouldn't bother if it doesn't affect you. But such is life and it's good to be able to tune them out. Yay for seeing the book out in the wild! Probably it was just sold out in other places ;-)

It's all good. When you announced you were traveling back to the States, I wanted to say, "If you're in the area..." but, even if you were stuck in the airport long enough to leave the "secure" areas thereby requiring additional TSA scrutiny to get back to your gate, I didn't want to subject you to the hassle.

Good for you for sticking to your principles/concern for your health and others’ by masking! It’s so disappointing how people in this country have mostly learned nothing from the pandemic (or learned the wrong things!!)
