Wow. Not okay. I think about you all a lot and I did manage to record a Bedtime Story yesterday. It's light-hearted, so feels sort of wrong for the moment. I'm feeling overwhelmingly drawn to reading rich, dense stories that try to explain things or maybe just ask a lot of questions of me. But I also see the necessity and importance for escape for self care. So I'll put it up soon. I have some other stories to read this month and post as well. I'm still in the shaking head and blinking eyes part of getting knocked down, but I thought it was interesting that last week apropos of nothing really, I drew the above with part of the old saying: Jinsei wa nana korobi, ya oki. Life is falling down seven times, getting up eight. At the time I was just farting around and liked how the daruma turned out. Now it rings different.

For nearly nine years I was spending hours and hours a day reading and listening to news, lawyers, journalists, the good politicians. Now I need to step back and regroup, invest that time here, the podcast, writing, researching, and, yes, reading rich, dense stories that try to explain things or maybe just ask a lot of questions of me. Sending all my love to you and yours and hugs, lots of virtual hugs. May that determined-looking Daruma provide some strength and peace. XOXOX,

We could all use hugs. Hugs, and grace, and all the good luck we can get.

/sending you hugs, if it wasn't obvious

My daughter is serving with the forest Corps in Utah and she never received the ballot she requested. We just have to be strong. We are resilient, we have to be brave. Hopefully he can be kept in line, but if not I hope all the people right now who are claiming that this was the best choice will hold him accountable. But if they won't, we will.

I’m concerned for everyone to be honest. There’s no one this doesn’t impact except for the ultra-wealthy. No matter if they voted or who they voted for. And we’ve been falling down an awful lot. I hope people will remember that standing up again is possible.

Yes, yes, yes this. My brain doesn't even know where to start. I go from the poor Ukrainians who we let down horribly to...no more vaccines?! My mother was in an iron lung for years because she got polio. There is so much. I think of all the good, strong people and the numbers I saw at her rallies...together let's stand up to this.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

The screaming in my head intensifies. Not keeping my word to myself, I found some threads on twitter last night of people in real time talking to each other, going online to check to see if their vote was counted...every response I saw (until the urge to throw up was too great I had to put the phone down) was: Does received mean counted? And Not counted. Etc. etc. "But if they don't, we will." <-- I love this.

I left you something on FB as well in our writing group. Hope it helps.

Feeling numb. Very numb. Ashamed to be American tbh. Ugh.

I have a little girl and I am terrified about the world in which I'm raising her. I don't want her to enter her teens soon enough for the US to be Gilead.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

That's it, too. Utterly numb. Gina, I'm so sorry we didn't get to see you guys this past trip. I want to (optimistically) say, we'll be back next year and have some more time since so much of this last trip was catching up with family and friends we hadn't seen in years. Real hug then!

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

This broke my heart. Oh my gosh, I have goosebumps. The Gilead analogy was never an exaggerated fear. Mike Johnson scares me more that tfg. There are many opportunities to study abroad, too. One thing I keep coming back to are the rallies and that overwhelming (in energy and numbers) joy and exuberance and incredible passion and positivity, and I don't believe that light is going out. A lot of people might feel like they've been knocked down for now, but I really feel there will be an up-swelling to protect our vulnerable and little ones. I'm so sorry ...

Please don’t be sorry- the same thing happens when Travis goes back to Canada. There’s just so many people you have to fit in visits with hahah. I will look forward to it whenever it happens :)

The influence of American politics is incredibly strong even here in Australia. In the past month or so, I've gone back to being terrified too afraid to stand up for myself when I get misgendered. Women all over the country are getting threatening messages. I'm so afraid for the First Nations women in this country, who are already subjected to extreme violence, in deafening silence. I can't imagine how bad it must be in the US.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Devastating. I'm so sorry. I must be the simplest person in the world to not be able to fathom how it can be so difficult to NOT protect the vulnerable and NOT care about others. How can you not CARE about other people??!! Then I start thinking about extreme wealth and power and control and my thoughts turn dark. I'm sorry, Gelid-Illuminant.

Love the daruma illustration. I'm exhausted from all the crises in the world, and grateful that somehow I am doing pretty ok despite the bad news Tues. Maybe in part due to the exhaustion. I knew this could happen, but I had real hope it wouldn't... I mean, I did stay up all night once I made the mistake of turning the TV on to watch the returns. I have profound concerns. But I'm okay with taking things one day at a time in this. It's hard to comprehend how Trump can have as much support as he has. He's very dangerous and not a nice person. But I pray that he behaves better than he might. And the work is never done. I'm not on social media except kind of the fringes like here, a bit, but I saw an interesting comment: Plan B has a 4 year shelf life. Maybe not a bad idea to safeguard some of that in our homes and communities (for like-minded people in the States) . I liked Kamala Harris' concession speech. PS I'm amazed elections officials would answer to a politician about how to run an election... That needs to be corrected. But surely they have those ballots, and can still count them. But I don't know, I'm out of touch. For who to call, I found this: https://www.usa.gov/voter-fraud *hugs* ❤ to you Thersa & Rich (and Julyan and the world!)

Thank you so much, Asa 🫂. I peeked at news long enough to see there are things happening in PA. Out of my hands though. Stay safe and well 🙏

It's shameful how willing to subvert the voting process some people are. There was an attempted arson of a ballot collection box in my county in Oregon. Thankfully the fire suppression system in it worked. Only 3 ballots were damaged and all were intact enough the voters could be contacted. Unfortunately a bunch of ballots were burned the same night across the river in Vancouver Washington. I'm deeply frustrated that anyone would be willing to vote for someone who attempted to overthrow the last election, and who is clearly interested in taking care of only himself, and the people who can make him more powerful. Best I can figure is there are a lot of angry and scared people out there with narrow worldviews.

Apparently the opposite of everyone else in this post - I'm doing pretty great! Poll results were all I wanted and more. Especially Vance getting in as VP, who is possibly the first major politician I've seen elected that really gets it and knows what time it is.
