I did it! I actually got the very first interview (chat?) episode recorded and here is it, the extended version.

*Note: It's also slightly NSFW. I know I have a few younger Patrons, so you might want to skip this one or I can edit a version without the R-rated part. Let me know!

Okay, let me back up for a second. I've been getting quite a few emails and messages from people asking for advice when traveling to Japan and I wanted to try to do an interview-type episode addressing those questions. So that's what this is. It's totally different from all other episodes.

It's an experiment.

I'm going to return to doing the usual shows, but might continue this kind of thing occasionally if there's interest. If nothing else, I plan on putting them up here every so often for my kitsune, kappa, oni, and tengu Patrons.

So if you have any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, even topics you'd like discussed, let me know and we can do that. I think we've got the miking situation figured out, so it will be easier in the future.

Oh, also, everything for August has been sent. Postcards went out a week or so ago, envelopes went out yesterday. I'm getting this extra episode up here, and two shows up in August. I feel like I'm on the ball.

That said, I have elbow surgery next Monday (my bosses ignored my request for two days off afterward and my concern about teaching the 8-9 kindy kids on the floor who affectionately jump on you when you're not looking...really looking hard to leave that place, that's not even the worst of it, by far)...what was I saying? Oh, yeah, I'll be minus one arm for awhile, but I'm hoping to be fully functioning enough to get September taken care of in time. I'm really looking forward to the cooler weather, too.

Okay, you all are actually getting the podcast (long version) first. I'm off to get that ready to put up before work.

Everyone take care, talk to you soon!

This was so interesting! I definitely would love more advice episodes! Travis and I hope to visit Japan one day, but even without plans, just learning about the quirks and cultural differences is really neat. :) Oh oh and also wishing you well in all things medical!

Gina, thank you for listening and replying. We originally came to totally different parts of Japan and have quite different experiences, so I think we'd have so much to talk about. As a matter of fact, we do spend a lot of time comparing notes, discussing cultural do and don't and differences. I mean like, just throw a topic (eating in a restaurant or going to a friend's house) at us and we could find lots to chat about.

This was really interesting and I love the sweet banter between you both. I also felt like 20min flew by, when I first saw the length I wasn’t sure since I have heard other podcasts interviews where I end up skipping, this episode however didn’t feel long at all and left me wanting more. All the best.

Thank you so much, Nixy! I just recorded the next podcast and I mention it there, but I'm almost to 100 Patrons and I want to start doing more behind the scenes/Q&A with him. Since it'll be for Patrons only we can be much more candid and, well, let our hair down, than when it's something used for the podcast. Thirty years each and we've definitely got some stories! I also like the idea of taking questions from Patrons, anonymously okay.

Kodama

nice one! "Get comfortable and let me take this opportunity to tell you how great I am!" Oh jeez. I have witnessed what you and Rich described and it was cringe worthy to say the least. I was lucky to receive that advice early in my travels and am grateful for it (not that I talk about myself much to begin with). It may seem trivial but hearing about another person's relatable personal experience is somehow fun! Great stuff, Terrie! always looking forward to more interviews like this one.

Thank you, Kodama! We’re recording our second one (Patreon only) today. Wrestling with what to talk about. Lol so many things we want to say!
