Hey hey, rascally critters!

Okay, Julyan is in the middle of quitting his crappy (really crappy) job and opening up his own music store, so I had to grab him during a few free hours to do the music bed for this month's Bedtime Story. But we got it done and I quite like it!

This month's story is called "Hanasaka Jiiji" in Japanese, "The Old Man Who Made Dead Trees Blossom" in English. I feel really bad about the dog. That's all I'm saying...

Also, the newest podcast is up. It's a story, too. I wanted to do something a little scary for Halloween week. "Yotsuya Kaidan" is one of the big ghost stories in Japan. So in episode 42, I did my version of it. Not my super duper version of it. I'd really love to roll up my sleeves and do my take on the old tale, but this time I decided to stick more or less close to the originals, as well as cut out some characters so it isn't too complicated.

As an aside: I've got it in my head to one day do a collection of my retellings of old stories. While in Clarion I was given the Angela Carter Award, and award my fellow students and teachers made up because they felt I was channeling her spirit. Embarrassingly, I had to look her up that night after they gave me the homemade award. She's beyond awesome. Anyway, that's on my bucket list. The cool retellings of Japanese folklore and fairytales. One day. One day.

Envelopes were sent mid last week, so they should start showing up to you later this week. Postcards are still being worked on. I'm hoping to send those out Tuesday.

I've got today and tomorrow to finish the piece for Sotheby's (yeah, the auction house). They were the ones that approached me to do an evergreen piece on Japanese ghosts. I'll be introducing three works of art and giving a crazy short telling of each story. I've been working on the podcast so much I'm just now getting to the Sotheby's piece.

I hope you are all doing fantastically well, XOXO,

terrie
