Please let me know you are all safe and sound. I imagine anxiety levels are high. I wake up at two am and read news for a couple hours, then have to calm myself down.

I just wanted to write real quick and let you know I'm recording the Bedtime Story today. I'll put it up tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm continuing with the kappa theme.

I had the Groovy Kappa postcards ready for over a week, but I wanted to spray them with fixative spray first. So I ordered that, but it took awhile to get here. They're all done now, addressed, and ready to pop into the mail tomorrow.

Okay, this is supposed to be quick. Stay healthy my yokai buddies. More super soon.

XOXO,

All well here. (Not a huge change to daily routine, really, since our household already worked from home, but this all happening at the advent of allergy season has been... interesting.) I did a livestream class of how to make a temari today, since it's unclear when we'll ever be able to do in-person classes again and I figured people might like to try learning a new craft while stuck at home.

Hey Terrie! OK here in London, however, as I work in transport, I am a key worker, so will still be going to work when we eventually go in to a full lockdown. We're still waiting for a full lockdown here (😡), but people are even petitioning the government to put one in place! The whole "panic buying toilet paper" has now become "panic buying everything except easter eggs and alcohol (except beer, that has been cleared off the shelves, too!). 🙄 People have finally figured out the link between the TP hoarding and the virus though- 1 person sneezes, 100 s**t themselves 🤷‍♀️ I hope you are doing OK over there in Japan, and that your loved ones are safe! 💙💙

Magdalena Cross

Oooh! Forgot to mention- the nurses over here are trying to start a thing called Sans-Covid Sundays, where people disconnect from news about the virus for the sake of their own mental health! People still have to stick to quarantine rules, but are encouraged to immerse themselves in something else, like books, or podcasts, or online classes, or even cooking! 💙

I'm glad to here everything is safe and sound there. I had a giggle at the allergy season comment. I had two moms and their three kids here yesterday talking about possibly starting a class with them. One of the kids is terribly allergic and same here, very much allergy season, he sneezed and everyone froze. He looks up and goes kafunsho (hay fever). We laughed. Also, I think temari classes could be a very huge thing. You could single-handedly bring temari to the entire world. Counting on you.

細いパン?爆笑!ともかく、皆は健康で私もホッとしました。皆、おたがいに頑張りましょう〜。

Do stay safe! But the panic is exhausting, too. I thought it was interesting because I always believed panic toilet paper buying was strictly a Japanese things (happens all the time). I blinked several times when I saw it went world wide. I love the Sans-Covid Sunday idea. I was hearing that some podcasts are losing loads of listeners. At first I didn't understand why, but it seems people listened on commutes and when commuting stopped, they stopped listening. One guy was like, my family doesn't want to hear my weird podcast choices. I've just glance at numbers every couple days and it looks like we're doing okay. Richard and I are challenging each other to learning different things. He's going to learn "Tico Tico" by Carmen Miranda and I want to learn "Raphael" by Carla Bruni. Also, we're going to try to learn that freaky dance, The Floss (is it?). We're doing a lot of cooking, unfortunately, not Japanese. Lots of Indian and Cuban recipes.

We're fine at ours. I was meant to be at home in Spain for the weekend but I cancelled that when I saw what was coming. My OH is a cleaner and I am a midwife so we are making sure that we look after ourselves. I wish they tested more in the UK though :(

Magdalena Cross

I've actually made an instagram post about the Sans-Covid Sundays and tagged you as one of the things people can do! 💙

Magdalena Cross

Completely agree! All 3 women in my family (mum, sis and I) are key workers, my sis is also a midwife 😃! They need to do more testing, and actually follow through on the testing! In Germany, they are actively tracing people who test positive, and then isolating them and testing everyone they came in to contact with!

I've personally been on lockdown in Brighton (South of England) for two weeks now as I had the cold and I have a history of respiratory illness that means that I *might* be more susceptible to the virus, no one can say. It's weird, as government information has been all over the place, and they're reluctant to do anything here so they're putting all measures in too late and half-heartedly. As a result, people are out and about and having fun on the beach and shopping even today after a lot of venues were ordered to close. It's super scary. I'm working an hour at a time and trying to create and be there for my own community, but it's hard right now. Especially knowing that the doodoo is gonna hit the fan in 7-14 days. I've been also thinking of ramping up podcast production if I am able to, as we're gonna be in this for the long haul and people will need to have content to listen to. Thanks for doing what you're doing, we all need our magical mystical places to go to in these times <3

Lourdes, yes, do stay safe. I'm trying to keep track of how different countries handle the situation. I didn't realize that the UK wasn't testing a lot either.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Adam, exactly! It's surreal that theoretically we all can see/imagine what is extremely likely going to happen (seeing China, Iran, Italy...) like you said, in 7 to 14 days, and yet so many are hesitant to do anything, especially the people who are charge. It's like we can't imagine it. If that makes sense. That can't happen to me. Just talking to my parents and a few more conservative friends. I'm so sorry about your lungs. Me, too. And your cold. Absolutely keep your butt inside.

Adam Dobay

yeah, I will not be moving my butt anywhere -- which is also great protection against kappa!

OK here, sick with a cold but no COVID symptoms, working from home which is alright so far - I'm fairly introverted so I can handle a little isolation. As above, have to make time to listen to podcasts as they were strictly a commuting thing for me. Trying to occupy myself with anything non-virus related as much as possible.

Korps

Staying at home playing Animal Crossing :3 staying as safe as possible and luckily can work from home.

Doing fine, but mildly amused at how much people side eye me now that I cough. (I have pretty heavy post-nasal drip every winter) I work in Portland Oregon, and the city has been completely dead. All the restaurants are doing take out only, and I've actually been going to my favorite ones more often because I know they'll be having a hard time with so many people staying home right now.

It turns out to be particularly good timing to start this now, because my teacher, who is semi-retired but did still have downloadable courses available through Etsy, had to close her Etsy shop to new orders because she broke her ankle a few weeks before self-isolating became the norm, so new (English-speaking) students didn't have a lot of places to turn. I'm going to have to learn real video software if I want to put anything up on YouTube though. I refuse to just export a straight livestream over there; that would be terrible.

My husband, mum and I have all been home and are staying home for the next two weeks. I work for a school and have been laid off till our school re opens which is up in the air. I have really been enjoying my creativity, and reading stories for my fb friends kids and posting videos of art activities. I know times are scary but for my self this has been a much needed time to nerture my art and toady I planted a garden. Hoping everyone else is okay <3

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Art and gardens. I love it! Today was a very spring day. I've got some dirt in my tiny shed and seeds. I think tomorrow needs to be an outdoor planting day.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Oh, Heather, it's allergy season here. Lots of sniffles and coughs. I have a friend who popped a Tic Tac in his mouth as he entered a store. It went down the wrong pipe and he started coughing and the entire store cleared out.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

I'm not a game player, but I did do Animal Crossing a year ago and was absolutely obsessed with it for awhile. I get it and the new one looks so adorable. So glad you can work from home.

We had a Covid-necessitated road trip. Our daughter's freshman year at college went all topsy-turvy when her university closed its dorms and went virtual with 2 weeks left in the quarter. She and some friends elected to get an apartment. They hustled and got it done, so we grabbed as much as we could and drove out to help her. Worked half-days in the hotel and helped her move the rest of the time. The hotel was about 20% full on a good night, and if it wasn't right next to O'Hare airport they probably would have closed it. They comped us into a suite, which was fantastic, but overall it was a weird experience. We only saw one or two guests a day on average and a lot of them seemed to be from Asian countries. I was able to recognize, for instance, that two women were having a conversation in Japanese by recognizing a few words, which is the only thing I've retained from college Japanese classes. The road trip home was weirder, as in 4 days we had gone from almost business as usual to very low volume traffic, social distancing, and drive through only restaurants. We're now isolating as much as possible because we don't know what we were exposed to in that whirlwind trip, mostly working from home and streaming tv shows and movies and listening to podcasts.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

That does sound surreal. I just love the idea of traveling for four days and the world is changing so dramatically as you do. That's a movie right there. Needs zombies though. You didn't happen to run across any zombies? That said, I'm glad your daughter and her friends got moved in. Very strange world right now. I'm also happy you're listening to podcasts, it sounds like there's a huge drop of of listeners because of no commuting and not gym going. I've noticed my numbers were down, too. Let's all stay safe and healthy. OX

SETH A LACHNER

I thought that might appeal to your horror writer sensibilities. I'm afraid I didn't see any zombies, you'll have to put those in your version. I just realized, as I typed that, that although I'm aware of Japanese ghost movies, I'm not aware of any Japanese zombie movies. Is that a thing? Best wishes
