There is no strict self isolation going on here yet, although I am as much as possible. I mean, usually, except for random visits to temples and the supermarket, I don't go out much at all. Book Club every three months is my big event. Sad, I know. But fun!

The first week in April is the beginning of the new school year in Japan. It looks like some schools are pushing back the start date by a week or two. It really feels like the schools are deciding on their own, no across the board decision from the top yet. Still only about 200 tests given a day. I just can't believe Japan is magically immune to this horrible virus.

Here's a link I look at. Not sure if there's a better one out there.

I thought it was interesting when I woke up at two am last night, the news in English was that the Olympics were being postponed. I went over and read the news in Japanese and the wording was very subtly different. It is possible that perhaps it could be postponed. I think Richard read somewhere that all the venues that have been or are being built have already been sold. Theoretically, they won't be able to use them next year. Although, I think under the circumstances something could be worked out.

But also since that decision was made, the governor of Tokyo (Yuriko Koike) has come out and said if people don't cooperate with social distancing she will have to declare a 'lock down'. It sounds like a lot of people just want her to do it already. After hearing about crowded stations and bars and restaurants, and seeing this story:

I think that might be a very good idea. Talking to friends and students, I don't get the feeling that anyone thinks what is happening overseas can happen here.

Oops. Went on a tirade.

Actually, the reason I'm posting is because I needed to run to the bank today, so on my way back I stopped by the ocean. It was such a beautiful day and Mount Fuji looked absolutely lovely. A hawk kept flying nearby circling my head. That was cool, too.

I thought I'd share it with all of you. How are you all doing?

Trying to stay warm atm. While the sun porch is a pretty spot for a temporary office it gets cold when it’s cold outside.

Ahh, the famous Mount Fuji everyone is talking about. It's nice. Truthfully, Amost every time I've seen it it's as a wood block print. Now I know it's real. As for me, working and living on a small Oregon homestead, little has changed for me. There are the animals to take care of, there are plants to nurture, there is soil to build. It's just a little lonely because the little contact with people was nice and that (in person) is non-existent now. So are you saying, the school year there is about to start? That isn't great timing. People here would be gnashing their teeth in anxiety over that. Be well.

Ah~, your life sounds dreamy. I think I could hang out with fresh air, sunsets, and all types of animals and plants. I spent my very young years in Alaska, so I just love being outside hanging out with critters and plantlife. I can't quite judge the panic or concern level here. For the most part, friends and mothers around here don't seem to be too concerned.
