I found this odd dessert (?) the other day at a rest stop between here and where Julyan lives. It's Tamago Marugoto Pudding/Whole Egg Pudding.

When you open the package you have an egg. A whole egg. No cracks or pinpricks.

The directions tell you to crack it open. Which I did.

Gush!

Inside the package is a tiny spoon and and tiny foil package of sauce.

I tasted a little of the gushy stuff before sauce. Kinda no taste. Definitely not sweet. Smelled very faintly of egg.

Then you're supposed to squeeze on the caramel sauce.

And eat!

It was pretty good. A bit of a mystery. My guess is they vibrated the eggs until the yolks and white mixed completely and then perfectly soft boiled them. Definitely something odd to try once. Except for picking tiny pieces of eggs shell out of your mouth.

Okay, mystery solved. I found this. Seems there's even a kids' toy that can make whole-egg puddings.

If you want to try at home, I found one video where the woman put the egg in a stocking and spun it to gush up the insides. I think I'm going to try this later today.

Creative huh. This joins the list of interesting Japanese food I want to try someday.

Thanks for sharing this. Our chickens are producing lots of eggs right now and we aren't able to give them to friends and family right now due to sheltering so I've been thinking of way to use them. This won't be one of those ways. But I am happy to know this exists. Everything about this is both terrible and wonderful. So much so that I had to send the video to my daughter at college.

SETH A LACHNER

We recently got one of those new pressure cookers (instant pot) which turns out to be an amazing way to make traditional egg custards like creme brulee or flan. The pressure cooker is also a good way to cook whole eggs. All that said I don't think I'll try this particular way of making custard.

My partner has been wanting to buy an instapot for ages. Not a big deal here yet. I love that everyone is grossed out by them. Yeah. I'd choose regular custard over that shaken eggy thing, too.
