Hey hey,

Got some depressing mail news. A few weeks ago when I went to the post office to send postcards and envelopes, the woman behind the counter pulled out a long list of countries that they weren't sending or receiving mail from. A week ago I went to send more stuff and the list was longer.

Now it looks like all mail overseas is suspended. I thought I at least got this month's postcards and envelopes in under the wire, but a few have started to come back. Even a couple things I sent out in February!

I'm putting everything in a big tengu/oni/kappa box I made to keep track of it all.

I'm going to continue to make postcards and I'll keep track of envelopes. While I can't do a lot of shopping now, I'm thinking about looking around and supporting small businesses and local artists that will inevitably be hurt by the (finally) shutdown.

Once the planes start flying again, I'll get everyone's postcards and envelopes (those that have been returned and every one from now until things get moving again) sent.

I'm so, so, so sorry. Everyone will absolutely get their stuff and all following postcards and envelopes as soon as I can send them.

In the meantime, if anyone has any ideas for extra digital content please let me know. I'm planning on putting up some binaural sounds and Behind the Curtain content soon.

Again, I'm so sorry. This virus has turned everyone's lives upside down. I was really hoping I could continue the mailings because I know how fun it is to get something goofy in the mail.

XO,

t

ETA: I found a post on FB where people are discussing options. There *might* be a way to still send things. Although, I'm hearing while things might get out of Japan, depending on the receiving country they get stuck and not delivered. Still reading.

Terrie, while the goodies are an awesome plus, I am here for the lovely stories and the sweet chat on here too! Stay safe out there, support those local artists and artisans, and keep us posted with how you are doing! In these wild times, I think connections are more important than anything else, so feel free to message me (although I am sure other patrons will say the same) for a chat if you want/need to! Keep ahold of the goodies, and once this weird situation is under control, I look forward to seeing what you've picked out for us. Stay safe, stay healthy, and sending you lots of love (also to Richard, Julyan and your loved ones!) Xx

Might explain why I haven’t gotten two other packages from Japan 😥. But I agree with Magdalena, connection and stories are more than enough. Stay healthy, happy, and safe, that’s what matters most right now.

First of all this is not a problem for me. I enjoy getting every one of your missives and I put your postcards safely away in an art folder so that someday people can offer me ridiculous sums of money for them and then I can smile politely and decline. Second, can Patreon help? Do they have digital folders tied to patron level or similar where you could put pictures of the stuff you can't send yet? If they don't it should be an easy add. Third, I would gladly read a short paragraph every couple of days or so about what you are seeing and experiencing during this weirdness. Every place is handling it differently and the news is only covering local details and international super-big picture stuff. Best wishes

I thought letters and postcards were still going? At least, someone who I know can fluently read Japanese said that was what an NHK article said. But it's super confusing - everyone's saying something different.

It's not your fault and we don't blame you. We care more that you're doing alright, I know that you're the diligent sort that will make sure that things work out in the end. But in the meantime, Iiyo.

Yes, it's super confusing. Last time I went they had this long list of countries that I couldn't send to. They said the countries weren't accepting mail from Japan. But I also heard or read somewhere else that it was Japan that had cut down on flights and just wasn't sending. So not sure about that. So last time,my Norway, Sweden, New Zealand and Australian mail was all denied. Then this week one of my postcards to Norway that I sent in February just came back. I'll look for the post/article again, but it said the all of North America and the UK just got on the list. You're right it's very confusing. I hear kuroneko would work but it would take over four months for the package to arrive. I'm going mask up and make a quit stop by my post office. It's very small, not ever crowded and they know me well.

Seth, you gave me my first ROTFL moment I've had in awhile. I like all your idea. I think I might put the 'real' life updates and the more 'don't wanna even think about what's going on updates' out, but label them as such so people who don't want to hear about the Covid-19 things can just pass. But it really is fascinating to me how Japan is handling this. Like, blink-blink-blink, you've got to be kidding me. Also, a couple of my good friends are married to doctors (and one has a son who just finished residency and it in the middle of Tokyo in a big hospital), so they might have some interesting inside information. That said, one is talky about the situation, the other is more mum. Thank you!

You're definitely not to blame for this. There is something I don't quite get - hopefully I'm reading this right on the picture - why does it have "Big Miririri" on both?

You're right! That's exactly what it looks like. It's Oosu, though. I moved to like the easiest address ever. I actually just looked it up because I wasn't certain. 洲 Shu or su, I just learned (!) means like a small sand bank or island in the middle of a river or lake. But also, boringly, 'state' or 'province'. We've got 'big sandbank' and near us 'takasu', 'high sandbank'.
