I was just contacted recently by BS TV to be on their show Watashi ga Nihon ni Sumu Riyu (The Reason I Live in Japan). I've never seen it (haven't had a TV for quite a few years now), but it looks nice enough. I'll put up a little of the email and links to some of the past shows for those who are interested.

It's an hour long and will be seen all over Japan and it might be something I would like to do if it weren't for the freaking pandemic. I'm a little shocked they're even asking me to come in to the studio in Tokyo. I'd have to take trains, local, Shinkansen, more local trains and maybe a subway or two. I'm really not feeling it at the moment.

I've done so good self isolating and being careful. The cases are starting to rise here again. There was a problem where doctors were asking to have patients tested but they were being told no. This went on up until a few days ago, when it sounds like they will try to test more. So we're not at the leveling out stage yet. The opposite.

Also, I just heard from a Japanese friend who works at a top notch juku (cram school) here that she was basically shamed into not leaving the house during the summer holidays. Bosses told all the teachers if they go to Tokyo (or anywhere, but Tokyo in particular) and bring the virus back it will affect so many people, devastate the company, shame, shame.

It just feels wrong. I'm going to answer the nice man who wrote, though, and tell him I really appreciate the invitation and under different circumstances I would love to do it. Alas....

Here's some of the letter and some links for those who like reading Japanese. Letter Japanese is it's own animal.

That’s really awesome that they invited you! But ugh, one more of many things that covid has screwed up 😠

Exactly. I'm absolutely fine with not going or doing it, but I made the mistake of telling some friends and they're telling me I should absolutely do it. They're asking me if I'm crazy because I don't want to go. I'm like, wait, who is the crazy one here? ^^;

Thanks for sharing this excellent info! And I do agree that it seems the wise choice to not go. Maybe they'll keep your "spot" for post-covid? ;)

What! why can't they do it remotely? Everyone is doing remote TV interviews.

I wrote my friend who is married to a doctor whose hospital is currently getting slammed with patients last night. She wrote back saying my gut reaction was for the best. I guess he took the phone from her and said under no circumstances should I go to Tokyo or meet anyone from Tokyo until this get under control. I feel better about saying no. I did answer and say to keep me in mind though!

Originally that's what I thought they would offer. Then as I read on, you need to come to the studio an hour beforehand... stuff like that. I think it's very possible to do the show remotely. I could sit in a tatami room on my end, they could on their end...

Linda Lombardi

Maybe you should suggest it. If they realized that this would work, you would be doing everyone else they invite a big favor!

Also, isn't there some pretty serious heat and sun there right now? As if the rain wasn't enough. I'm sure even the cicadas are thinking this is a little much (or maybe they are even happier/louder?)

Funny you should mention that. I'm trying to stay inside as much as possible. But, yeah, the heat got turned on. My doctor friend who told me under no circumstances should I go also said be careful of heat exhaustion as well. Hope things are cooler your way.
