It's so hot and miserable. I recorded a trickling brook and a funky cicada to cool off to. Or I don't know. The water is cooling. The cicada just screams in the heat. My brain is mush.

Working on the Bedtime Story this week, going to try and send all August postcards (and pray they arrive), as for packages, I will try and send anything *not* going to the US, Australia or New Zealand (those they won't even weigh for me yet).

XO,

terrie

It's been hot and miserable here too, but no cicadas. It's cooled down a bit but my flat takes days to cool down so it's still pretty uncomfortable. I'm just glad we're not still on lockdown so at least I've been able to go out. Thanks for the recording, I look forward to falling asleep to it later :)

We in the San Francisco Bay Area are going through a heat wave of five days in a row of the weather being well over 32 .22 degrees C. Very unusual. Usually, we have only a couple days of such extreme heat at a time. And starting at 3:30 am, there has been thunder and lightning every ten to fifteen minutes. It's now 7:22 am and the thunder and lightning are still happening. I've lived in the Bay Area all my life and have never experience such a heat, thunder, and lightning in this area.

PS, thanks for the delightful book and cicada sounds. It complements the thunder.

Hadn't really thought about it, but the cicada sound is indeed funky. Sounds like summer, but funky. Just think, they spend 17 years preparing their repertoire, and it sounds like this.

This was a beautiful soundtrack for my morning walk. Excellent work !

Also moderate heat wave here in Portland Oregon, looking forward to fall 🎃😊

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

When I was standing there by the tree recording, I kind of got a little attached to the guy. Also, I need to look this up, but someone once told me that the cicada in Japan are actually yearly. Totally not sure though.

We were promised a nice thunderstorm the other night, but it didn't come. I was hoping for something to take the edge off the heat.

We went out a few weeks ago to see some trees and a river and I was astonished at how much that improved my mood. A couple cars and a guy on his scooter delivering the afternoon paper in the clip. Hope those don't wake you. They always startle me when I listen to the recording later.

Yeah, I think in Japan the underground nymph stage lasts 2-3 years. American cicadas 13-17 years. Abundant and vocal cicada population in the southern US this year and next.
