Hey there, critters!

I thought this would make it before the end of August, but I think that depends on where you are in the world.

August's Bedtime Story is called "The Oil Seller's Daughter" (Aburaya no Musume・油屋の娘). Please let me know if the sound is okay. This is the first story I think I did all by myself. Usually I research, write, record, edit, then pass it on to Richard to do the tail end, fancy sound-stuff (something about Lufs and declick and compression and rendering--all very complicated-to me).

But this time, since he's super busy working on other stuff, I said I'd do it myself. I did ask him a crap ton of questions, however, and I imagine he might have been thinking it would be faster if he did it himself. But I'm a little proud of myself for getting this done*. I hope to do more (and learn more about sound) because he's fixing to be quite swamped with the Youtube and cooking stuff.

Fingers crossed that it sounds okay.

* I had the story recorded about a week or so ago, when I went to edit, though, somehow the file was missing. *sniff* I had to re-record at like four am yesterday. But at least it was quiet outside.

The podcast should be up soon. It's a local nanafushigi (Seven Strange Occurrences): Koumare Ishi・子生まれ石. I have some photos and videos of the area that I'll put up here for you all, probably tomorrow.

Thank you, All!

XOXO,

terrie

お話が大好き! What I've always enjoyed about this genre is strangeness as opposed to horror. Also, I do appreciate your change in ending. I was thinking about that before hearing your note at the end. I'm forever frustrated by the disneyesque requirement to pair up. I did find myself wanting them to have a relationship though. Perhaps later, they did in fact keep in touch, visited each other now and again and became old friends. ありがとう。

I have never heard/read this story before! Thank you so much for sharing it! And the audio sounds great!

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Jeffrey, my first version had her inviting him back for tea and rice cakes the next day. So that she had agency in the decision. But then I kind of like the idea about Taro despite being a good guy, just a little immature, all he wants to do is hang out with his buddies. I'm guessing he'll catch some fish, realize he doesn't have any oil to fry them, and head on over to buy a cup of oil. Part Two!

Gerran, thank you so much. My sound ears aren't as good as Rich's so a lot of the times what I think is good enough, isn't quite.

This was beautiful! Loved the new ending. It gives the tale a wholesome and optimistic angle and makes it feel uniquely sculpted- thanks for adding these special touches!
