Bedtime Story: "The Eater of Dreams" by Lafcadio Hearn (Patreon)

Hey hey, Everyone,

How are you all holding up?

I was sifting through ideas for the next podcast (and this month's Bedtime Story) and I re-stumbled upon a very strange and wonderful youkai called the baku ( 獏 ) or "the eater of dreams". I had never heard this Lafcadio Hearn story before, so I decided to read it for this month's Bedtime Story. Then in the next podcast episode I'll go into some more detail about the creature itself.

An interesting bit of trivia, a baku is also a tapir, which kind of looks like how it's described. Kinda.

If you go to temples in Japan, sometimes you'll see a baku carved into the corners of the roof.

Here are some images of the creatures in the story. Okay, for some reason I can't put photos inside a post that has an audio file. Attaching files didn't work either. I'll put up another post with just photos of the cute little baku.

Sweet dreams~,
