Hey hey, Everyone!

It's chilly and the bugs aren't doing much outside. Also, I haven't been out of the house much to get any good binaural natural sounds. But I wanted to do something fun and different to share with you.

So today I walked through a ~very~ empty "home center" store called Cainz. I don't know what these are called in other countries. There is a lot of hardware stuff, but also kitchen things, stationary items, plants, pet supplies, even a little food for good measure.

Anyway, there were probably five people in the whole place. But you won't think that while listening to my binaurally miked walkthrough. On quite a few aisles they have these tiny displays (about as big as a a big person's hand), with commercials for various products playing non stop. So you can hear them as I walk around. If you're studying Japanese and want to practice your listening skills, this might be a hoot. Or maddening. Not sure which.

Today's binaural sounds are the opposite of meditation, by the way. While walking through the store I didn't realize all the different sounds, jingles, songs, noises. I just thought, wow, no one's here. But after getting home and listening to the recording I'm a little shell shocked.

So if you'd like to walk through a DIY store complete with a Japanese version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town, slap on those headphones and give this a listen. And if you want to try and guess what the different commercials are selling, that might be fun! If you don't understand something, ask me. I'll see if I can catch it.

XO, Stay safe and healthy,

Are you living in Kumamoto? That's a really cool recording ☺️ City sounds are also interesting. Thank you Terry!;

Yeah, Kumamon. Lol, I was looking for something Japanese and Christmasy and for some reason snagged Kumamon. I'm in Shizuoka, Fujieda.

Marko of the Woods

I have a good Japanese friend from Fukuroi, Shizuoka-ken.

Won't Japanese connect the bits and pieces the same way as I did. Now that post represents Kumamoto suddenly :D Kumamon is quite well known. My friend from Tokushima travels together with Sudachi-kun plushie (subtly encoding his birthplace into each photo his plushie appears in). Maybe you also need a mascot? :D

Marko of the Woods

P.S. By "subtly" I mean, that non-Japanese probably seeing a guy taking pictures with plushie won't be able to read into the reason that plushie is there :D We just don't have that mascot culture so much.

Just downloaded all binaural sound I could find to listen in sequence while filling out my kanji textbook chapter. Everything else is in "Binaural nature sounds" while this recording is in "Binaural city soundscapes". I really hope that there will be more interesting walks to listen to under cityscapes (probably festivals, walks on the street, home centres :D - whatever you find interesting to listen to in human settlements).

If I remember correctly I put a walk through Kyoto Station (which also has a LOT going on) and an autumn festival with the omikoshi, jangly music, and people milling about atmosphere. If you guys like the city soundscapes, too, I can definitely do more of those. Although all festival have been halted for the time being.

This is kind of awful and kind of fun at the same time. And better for falling asleep to than I expected. thanks!

Isn't it though? What's surreal is that while walking around, because there were so few shoppers, I didn't feel that barrage on the ears. After I got home and listened, I was stunned.
