Hey hey!

How is everyone finishing up their 2020 and gearing up for 2021?

I've got quite a few plates spinning and wanted to share some forward momentum with you all.

1) I sent out postcards early last week, so they should be arriving soon, as well as envelopes to Europe.

A patron (thank you, Phillip!) has given me some very good information on getting envelopes sent to North America and I'm looking into that. At the moment post offices are insanely busy (end of year has everyone sending packages to loved ones, and New Year's nengajo hagaki), so I'm going to try this new plan early in January and hopefully we can get back on schedule. *fingers crossed*

2) I've recorded, edited and put music on this month's Bedtime Story, and have just handed it to Richard to give his once over. It should be ready to upload here within a day or two.

3) New content!

But first, look at the amazing (!!) logo for the new show. Soothing Stories Podcast. Again, a wicked talented patron to thank for that (Travis, thank you!!). He also did the Uncanny Japan logo, by the way.

The idea for Soothing Stories is me (or Richard, he has a really nice voice) reading some classic tales. I've been listening to loads of similar shows and really want us to stand out. I want to pick good stories I love, read them well, and that with high quality audio and immersive sound.

What this means for $5.00 patrons and above: Extra content!

I'll put the stories up here without the intro/ads for those who are interested. In the title line I'll either put "Bedtime Story: title" (for the usual monthly Japanese tale) or "Soothing Story: title" (for the non Japanese ones). This way you'll know which one you'll be getting.

4) The Youtube Channel. Richard is working diligently on that. So hopefully soon. I'm what you call a 'just run with an idea and figure it out as you go along, life is too short and getting shorter' kinda person. Richard is a 'get ALL those ducks in a row and make sure they're marching lockstep' kinda person. Youtube definitely has a lot more moving parts that a podcast. It boggles my mind.

Everyone stay safe and well and please have a lovely Christmas and/or end of the year holidays!

XO,

terrie

Love the logo! Excited to hear the Soothing Stories. (Can ghost stories be soothing?) Good LUCK with the mail suggestions omg omg omg.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Exactly, right? I was thinking of something bed timey for the title, then looked at the first couple stories I picked: "The Yellow Wallpaper", "The Masque of the Red Death" and Kafka's "Metamorphosis". Perhaps not exactly ~soothing~, ^0^

LungOx

Haha those "soothing" story choices!!! Edgar Allan Poe and Flannery O'Connor might be some lovely additions to this lineup.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Oh my gosh! Flannery O'Connor is one of my favorite writers. I wonder if her stuff is in the public domain. Being able to read "A Good Man is Hard to Find" would be a dream.

RIGHT?! Such a great opening line! "The grandmother did not want to go to Florida." She wrote so many good ones. I went through a real Flannery phase 🖤 in college.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

There were a couple years that I was so obsessed with her, probably a couple years after college. I love that you had a Flannery Phase, too. I read as many biographies and collections and books of her correspondences as I could. Okay, they are all packed away somewhere (too many books and very small Japan), but I'm going to find them again and re-read. I always get inspired reading her works. Thank you for reminding me. ^^d

Exactly! I had a shelf dedicated to Flannery books and anthologies and correspondence. Also a Virginia Woolf shelf. Predictable English major, in retrospect!
