Hey there, You Alls!

The last couple weeks have been something, and I mean, Something. I did get the Asahi Newspaper story finished and sent in. Wew!

But, also, my father-in-law passed away this past Wednesday and that's so incredibly sad. Japanese funerals are very...mmm, let me find the correct words later, but there is a lot for the family to do. The body is taken to the house and in this case stayed for four days, then he's moved to the funeral place, the wake was done there, the funeral the next day. The funeral itself was six to seven hours because the ceremony before the cremation, waiting while cremated, the ceremony afterward and bringing the ashes home. He was the one of the kindest, genuinely sweetest souls I've ever met.

In other news, today (like five minutes from now) we're heading out to Kyoto and Nara. Lots of research, photos, audio to be had. I'm quite excited.

Instead of updating here every half hour and potentially bothering people for three days, we're going to put little updates and photos over on Discord.

There's Patron's Only -- Behind the Scenes chanel that we'll be updating to regularly. It's not public, only you all can see it. Here I will probably put up those little short video clips (they're easy to do on the phone), and when I get back to my computer I'll sort everything and put up something more comprehensive.

I'll end with a photo of my very handsome (looks like movie star) father-in-law when he was younger and another of him playing with Julyan when Julyan was little.

More soon, XOXO,

t

Condolences on you and your families loss.

The Buddhist Nun that taught at the center I practiced passed away, and they had the full funeral. The two monks did (I think?) 108 (like the # of mala beads) prostrations a few times each day. Passing from one state to the next is taken very seriously. I have no doubt the warm thoughts you had of your Father in law made his journey that much lighter. Enjoy your trip and don't upset any mechanics!

Yes, much to say about that. But even during the funeral itself he passed from one level to the next and the food on the altar was changed to reflect that. Thank you for the kind words. 🙏

There had been a family rift some years ago. I got to see relatives I never thought I'd see again. We all shared memories and it was comforting and healing for the family I think.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Perhaps he will visit with the ancestors.

It was very sweet and heartbreaking at the open casket, all the old brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles gathered around and telling him who he needed to see and hang out with and wait for them.
