Hey hey!

I have a bit of news that I wanted to share because quite frankly it's got me very excited and is most definitely a personal milestone that's been a long time coming.

Backstory: It's been forever since I've written anything that I've really liked. To be honest, it's been forever since I've written anything (fiction-wise) at all. Almost six years to be exact. Not exactly forever, but feels like it.

There were a couple anthologies along the way, but they were invites, so that's a different kind of vibe.

What I've been wanting to write are complete stories in their entirety, where I dream up a cast of characters, the world they live in, and then the story they're going to tell. There have been so many false starts, and so many more jotted down ideas, but nothing actually finished. The stories were in my head. The writing part eluded me entirely.

Until a few months ago, that is, when various things began to coalesce and I discovered a time managing app that has been quite the eye opener. I decided I was going to write five stories by the end of the year (stories I loved, nothing half-assed), and I was going to submit them to five markets. If I get rejected, that's totally fine. All I can do is write a story I adore and send it off. So many other factors play into whether or not it gets published anywhere or not.

So I started. I found an anthology that looked really neat and circled the deadline on the calendar and got to work. That was painful. Incredibly so. I ended up writing through the night to make the deadline because I was so rusty. But I squeaked in under the wire. The first round of rejections will be coming out this week, I believe. Fine, fine, if I get the ol' "It's Not For Us" email. I genuinely like the story itself and would like to work on it more. So I'm okay with it coming back. Just waiting, atm.Next I found a second market that also looked perfectly wonderful and circled that deadline. This time the story went a little easier. I also submitted it the day *before* the deadline. This story I very much loved.

The next day I received an email from one of the editors saying I'd been shortlisted. They also loved the story. ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

Full stop.

That's all I needed. *wipes tear* Do mean I still have a little mojo left? I can do this writing thing *cue imposter syndrome*

But the *real* news is that last night before I fell asleep I checked my email and there was the same editor saying congratulations, I'd been accepted into the anthology. ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪

And ooo~boy was that the shot in the arm I needed. I can't say details yet. They're not releasing the table of contents until later in the month. So mum's the word until then. But I was given the go-ahead to 'vague' tweet/book/post. As soon as they release the details, I'll let you know. It looks like it's going to be quite good.

I've got my third anthology already picked out and that third deadline circled on the calendar. Then the next two (I already know what I'll write about), I'll send to regular markets. There. That Five Story Goal I made came with a part two, too. Once I finish that, then I'll sit down and write a book. A long form book. Either one of the middle grade books I've got all outlined (and started) or an adult novel, which I have also very roughly thought out (and started).

It's just about prioritizing my day and To Do List and then sitting down to do the work. Not after the floors are washed or plants repotted, but now.

I hope everyone has a much easier time of caring for their dreams, nurturing them, and working on them diligently. It's so easy to become distracted. XO,

terrie

P.S. Artwork is ai expressing my sheer joy. Yeah, that about nails it.

P.P.S. I have also gotten the incredible itch to start *gasp* blogging* again. Short little whatevers over on thersamatsuura.com. I already put up one post that explains why.

Patreon is exactly blog friendly and I don't want to annoy anyone with my rando posts. So if you're a lover of rando posts, thersamatsuura.com is the place to be 😂

*what's that?

All the hoorays! I wish I could feel like my life was at least in the meadow off the goat track I'm trying to follow. Pretty please may I have a discord link? Or should I ask that on your blog proper? I did force my RSS reader to subscribe so I maybe wouldn't miss things.

This is great news, well done you! I think I need that time management app, I'm great at it when I'm at work but in my personal life not so much :(

Thank you 🙏 ! I'm quite adhd and unfortunately it's really hard to get treatment here as an adult. So I'm fighting the thousands of bees in my head and my impulse to do something new every two minutes. Then I found (this is probably going to be silly) the Forest App. I grow little trees. I know. I know. But I find it cute and silly and just engaging enough to keep me at it. The first couple weeks I was aghast at seeing how little time I spent on things I really wanted to be doing. Then I made it a point to do basically Pomodoros, but I can choose how much time I want to do something (and what tree to grow!). Also, I can review the day at any time to see where I'm spending time and adjust.

Thank you, Merit! I think that link should work...although it doesn't look like a link. I need to get a walk in before it's too late. Brb!

interesting... I think I may be the opposite of adhd, if that's possible! I don't really have a lot of impulses, if any, so unless I make a conscious effort to decide to do something I just get stuck in the same routine. I'll have a look at the app anyway, I have no problem with cute and silly

Fantastic news! I third the lament of the adult adhders among us, but organization/management tools help me immensely as well. Looking forward to reading your new work!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🎉 So exciting. 🤩 Will look into the Forest App, that's interesting.

I was just recently diagnosed as well (2 of my 3 kids have it and I got suspicious) and being treated has been life changing. I thought I had an anxiety disorder this whole time . . . But yeah, last year I turned what should have been a six month textbook project into eleven months of anxiety and existential dread. My usual process of making an exhaustive to do list that I then ignore had failed me and so I had to resort to making a schedule which was like pulling out my fingernails with pliers. :) I am definitely going to check out your tree app, sounds very appealing to me. :)

How wonderful! I've been hoping and hoping to see more stories from you and the thought of a book is mind-blowing!! Added your blog to my RSS feeds to make it easy to follow

Congratulations!!🍾 so happy for your good news!! 👏

Jae Steinbacher

Congratulations!! What's the time management app, btw?

Michael Fieser

Congratulations! Now I really need to get to seriously working on that story idea I told you about.

Thank you, Jae~. It's called Forest App and at first I thought a little simple and silly. But that seems to be exactly what motivates me. 😂

Thank you so much, Paul 🙏 The story in question is a play off the Toriyanse children's song. Woah!! I just had an epiphany. I made the podcast to share those bits of neat research I found while researching for stories and it turned upside down, where all my research was for the podcast and I stopped writing stories. Now to find that middle road everyone's always talking about.

Congratulations! I see you seem to have both zero and two comments simultaneously on that blog post, so your spam filter might be on the blink a bit...

YES!!! Richard just said the exact same thing. Then he took responsibility for it, somethingsomething he did. Either he's going to fix that soon or move the whole site some place new. Good catch ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Wonderful! I'm so happy for you. I look forward to reading the stories at some point. Also, perhaps perversely, I find it comforting and inspiring that you, who has successfully accomplished work, multiple times, without an outside timekeeper (say, a middle manager of some kind) still needs to find ways to create time for new projects and to stay on such tasks in the face of distractions. I wonder if Van Gogh had distractions and if so, what his approach was...

SETH A LACHNER

Ha ha! I love reading good news and this makes me so happy for you. I can't wait for the rest of the details to come out.

Thank you, Seth (╹◡╹)♡ Do you know how long it's been since I've been back home? Too long. I am itching to plan a trip back and let's hang out. ^^v

Sometimes I stare down my own little Mortal Timeline and think, if I wrote a book every year until I was just too weary to write anymore, that's wouldn't be so many books. Crap. Then I splash cold water on my face and try and focus again. There's something else funny and interesting I just read and for the life of me I can't remember the exact quote or where I read it. Let me check on my readers and open books I have laying around...brb!

SETH A LACHNER

That will be fantastic. Let me know when your plans come together and I will block off as much time as I can!

Ana Farias

That's great news! So happy for you ♥️

Ptolemy Einhorn

Congratulations!!!! That’s so wonderful 😍. You are an amazing storyteller and I can’t wait to read it.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Thank you so much 🙏! It's been so long, but for the first time in a long time I really dig the story and can't wait for people to read it.

Colette Lawrence

That’s so awesome!!!! So happy for you, Terri! There’s a smallish press in Maryland that specializes in horror called Cemetery Dance. They do a lot of anthologies.

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Thank you, Colette 🤗 Yes! I know of Cemetery Dance well but have yet to send them anything. I need to see what they're up to these days.
