He hasn't seen this classic that's right up his alley?? Inconceivable!!

Kate L.

Have fun storming the castle!

Kate L.

Oh, so Jay’s a year younger than me then, and I made it to HS without seeing it. It was several of us in one big camp group, and they put it on for movie night instantly.

Megan Blair

Well this just sealed how i'm spending my night. I'm amused at the start to know that you're equally shocked. Can't want to come back and enjoy again with you two.

Nikki Wood

I cannot stress enough how excited I am for this. When I got married, I walked down the aisle to an acoustic guitar version of the main song from the movie. This movie means everything to me, I can’t wait to watch Jay fall in love with it too!!

Tania C

This is exactly what I needed today. Thank you.

fivefingers_through_fire

It's so fun! I only watched it for the first time a few years ago, and it's just so dang charming throughout. Understandable why people love it to this day, why they have interviews with the cast at different anniversaries.

Shauna

I atarted crying at the first "As you Wish"......

Bernard Manansala

The best fencing in cinema? I'd argue Antonio Banderas v Catherine Zeta Jones in The Mark of Zorro is the best fencing duel in cinema.

Jon Kay

I don't know that it is the very best ever, but certainly it deservedly sits at the high table of the great screen swordfights. It is one of the duels I enjoy watching the most, especially for their running commentary! It does a great job of conveying a lot of info about the characters too. The Mask of Zorro is a true high point and Antonio is a worthy successor to Tyrone Power (I knew someone who knew someone who'd worked with some of the team and apparently Mr Banderas was very very good indeed, one of those actors who are gifted with a sword. Even so, a bit of me still remains blown away by Ridley Scott's finest film - The Duellists. Shot in quite a different way, but brilliantly intense and conveys the feeling of what it would be like to have a psychotic Harvey Keitel coming at you with a cavalry sabre :) !

Tato

Love this movie. I also love the story of how Mandy Patinkin used the death of his father (from cancer) as inspiration for Ingio's revenge against the six fingered man. Adds such amazing depth to that final sword fight scene!

Urooj Qureshi

I watched this film later in life too Jay and it for the most part withstands the test of time. It is still so charming, whimsy and funny.

Jay has never seen Princess Bride?!?!? Inconceivable!

Ana Greer

The book "As You Wish" is pretty good. Carey Elwes said that the scene at the fire swamp when he gets hit on the head by one of Humperdink's men actually knocked him out! Also, I love the fencing scene.

Ana Greer

Great watch also. Thanks guys.

Nosde Tra

Hadn't seen this in a while. Always love it!

Linda Montez Brooks

The sword fights were choreographed by the same guy who choreographed the light saber fights in the original Star Wars trilogy

Michael Enslein

Awesome watch along as usually. Jay worrying about not liking this move. I was like same feeling as I got about him not liking skeleton key aka goonies in space.

Michael Lentz

I am here for the look on Adam’s face when Jay says, “That’s Amanda,” and Adam responds with “I know.” It is so sweet. This is one of my comfort movies. Whenever I just need to escape into something fun I turn on this movie. I am so happy that Jay got to experience it. “Have fun storming the castle!”

Kate L.

They both learned to fight with both hands, and Carey casually had a broken toe. The story is in his “making of” book. If I remember right, he broke it on the 4X4 that Andre got to ride around set. One year he did cons he was specifically promoting his book. He told that story. When we met him, they had curtains up to close him off from the con floor and created a mini booth. He doesn’t like crowds. He does seem like one of those shier people who comes alive when he’s acting. You’d never know.

Kate L.

That’s right! I forgot that.

Claire Deeley

So great! Please react to the at-home celebrity version made during COVID (it is on YouTube). I grinned like an idiot the entire time.

Stephanie Krutsick

Please tell me y’all have been told that the book itself is written by a man who wrote it as a fake book he fake heard from his immigrant father as he grew up - and that literally the entire book itself is a troll with fake references, fake abridging notes, etc. And that man is the screenwriter for this movie, based on his own troll book, based on his own childhood with his immigrant father. It’s amazing. Also, the suction cups are far more horrifying in the book, as they are described as being on every centimeter of the man’s body, including inside his tongue and mouth. Tiny suction cups all over your body in the thousands. But the book is only like 175 pages long, is wonderful, and trolled one of my best friends in senior year of 2000-2001 high school to do a book report on it as if it were ACTUALLY a book that was abridged from an older, lost version. She’s lucky I caught her the week before and told her it was, in fact, a troll book this whole time and just as comedic as the film in its very inception.

Stephanie Krutsick

Also the same choreographer as when Arya starts learning her swordsmanship in game of thrones. I believe that was his last choreography.
