Taken For Pomegranted

This is the first episode it really feels like the show wants to make the audience know the writers are aware Charlie is a shitty person, even with her good intentions. The first season seemed so wishy-washy about it that it came off as unintentional. I didn't have the complaint, but I can understand why people complained she felt like an author-insert in the first season. She gets—rightfully—compared to Leslie Knope, but Charlie fails as that kind of character simply because of who she is. Where Leslie was a low-ranking government official that was a member of the system she played a part in, Charlie is outside of the system as a monarch with magical powers, a father second only in power to literal God, blind faith in herself 95% of the time, and she's immune to any and all personal consequences. Instead, she gets everyone around her to suffer the consequences of her actions. She basically wakes up in the morning and says "What decisions can I make today that get one or more of my friends brutalized and traumatized? Maybe I'll get bonus points if it's the sexual assault victim :D" I don't hate her by any means, but she's easily the weakest part of the show and least interesting character lol.

I really like Charlie, but my god does she need Vaggie to give her a (metaphorical) slap this season. Between this episode and the next, Charlie's ignoring everyone, including her INCREDIBLY supportive girlfriend. She dives headlong into bad decisions that hurt her, her friends, and her goals. I'm waiting for Vaggie to break down completely, and I'll cheer.

This episode for me was the hardest one to get through this season. Charlie is really heading into such an interesting character arc, but I really hope after this she learns how to respect her friends better. She needs to grow from this and we need to see improvement from her as a person. Really enjoyed this reaction!
