That has been the story circulating but fact checking now, pulled from a them.us article - With speculation on social media that the namesake book, which forms the basis of Heated Rivalry episode three began its life as gay Marvel fanfiction, the author has weighed in . The answer: sorta, kinda. “I did everything wrong with Game Changer,” Reid told Salon ahead of Heated Rivalry’s world premiere last week. According to the publication, after first writing Game Changer, Reid rewrote the novel, creating an “alternate-universe” in which the story was a fanfic featuring Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes that she posted to Archive of Our Own (AO3). “I didn’t realize you could even post original work on AO3,” she said. “I thought it had to be fanfic.” For Reid, AO3 was important because it provided her a place where she could anonymously receive feedback on her work. But she eventually removed that version off the platform, stripped it of Stucky details, submitted it to publishers, and then revised it again with a directive to make it even less like a fanfic.

This episode was such a nice break from the Shane & Ilya emotional rollercoaster. A bittersweet rom com. People communicating about what they think and how they feel. Circumstances were just not by their side.

I'm sure someone else has said this, but at this point in 2026, there hasn't been an out male athlete in the major leagues. There's some that come out after retiring and some in the minor leagues, but no one in the major leagues. :-/
