WIcked For Good Watch Along

I was just wondering yesterday when you guys were gonna post your watch along and reaction! Perfect timing!

I have to give this one a 5 out of 5. After my first viewing (with a 3-day gap between p1 and p2) I had similar feelings to you guys, but after that I've only done "double features" and the big picture gels together incredibly well when you watch them back to back. For example, the scene of Nessa wheeling around on the train platform after Boq fawns after Glinda is much closer in timing to their scenes in For Good so they feel a little more more justified, you notice that Elphaba DID in fact "blend with the foliage" like Fiyero said she did, the green bottle thread is there from the opening to pre-Popular to post-Wedding so there's less wondering when it comes back at the end, Morrible's line to Glinda about sorcery at the Ozdust being repeated by Glinda at the end sticks out more too. It overall makes me sad that a single 5-hour movie isn't feasible, because these 2 movies really are 1 story and shine, I find, when experienced that way.

I highly recommend watching the Corridor Crew video where they break down how they did the camera work for Glinda's song.

I think the word you were looking for is 'gibbet'

Ariana and Cynthia INSISTED on singing everything live. They thought it would be a disservice to the many Glindas and Elphabas who have sung the show eight times a week. All the breaths are recorded live on an extremely quiet set. Sound guys went so far as to hide a tiny microphone in Cynthia’s hat.

I love the visuals in No Good Deed, but my only complaint is I wish it, like some of the other songs, sounded a little less "perfect," especially in moments of emotion

In the musical the time between act 1 and act 2 is 5 years, which matches the length of time it would take for the lion to mature as much as depicted in the film as well.

12:48 The actress playing Glinda's Mom is named Alice Fern and she actually played Elphaba on Stage in London! She is really good!

For Storm I love the fancasts - Jodie Turner Smith Jayme Lawson Anna Diop

Andrew

Jay's 'beaming smile of a child celebrating their first Christmas' approach to this makes the reaction so special.

So I have one change (and yes this is to justify my long time head canon), is I would have them reveal Dorothy was in on the whole faking the death plot. Since I first saw the play, it just made too much sense to me that right after the whole "kill the witch" number, Fyero just took her aside and spilled the beans on the whole situation. I get not having her in focus, but it would be fun if after everyone in the play calling her a dumb farm girl, she tricked them all

- Burton’s Gotham is Art Deco, while Emerald City is Art Nouveau; just like in LOTR the dwarves are Art Deco and elves are Art Nouveau. So it’s a very apt comparison! The camera shots and lighting make the Gotham comparison feel very true, it’s the slight stylistic difference that separates them. - as others have said, all those breaths are legit! Ariana and Cynthia both sang live on set (even during crazy flying sequences for Cynthia), and while there were touch-ups to get rid of as much sound interference as possible, very little of their singing is ADR. - the “I love yous” between the two women were improvised. Cynthia said it on instinct and Ariana said it back and they kept it. - Also? Their crying on the other side of the door from each other? Unscripted. This was the last scene they shot in the whole film, and both of them sobbed on either side of the door on their own. Neither of them knew the other was doing it. Again, it was so raw and perfect that the director kept it in. - agreed on needing more fleshing out of Nessa and Boc. I would have taken another twenty to thirty minutes to make this the same length as the first film to flesh that and some other things out more. - there are a lot of little things that I noticed on this third watch that I didn’t notice on the first or second. And how about those shots in the mirrors in Girl In The Bubble! - no one can blame the oppressed class for giving up or trying to protect their own families, so it’s up to those of us who fit the least oppressed classes to continue to fight - I think Adam would be very interested in the behind the scenes documentaries! I think he’d love them a lot.
