Other Mommy is based on a book called Incidents Around The House, and I’m kind of disappointed in the trailer. In the book, she only takes the form of the mother a few times to trick the little girl, and once the mom sees her, she stops. She is horrifying otherwise. Gigantic… dark, blue hair on her arms and legs…. Her skin feels like a dead fish… sometimes her face will be upside down, or all on one side of her head, or she will hold it in her hands “like a towel.” She follows the family everywhere they go, and the horror comes a lot in that in real life, there’s no one who can actually help them, the Catholic Church won’t help, and everyone else they talk to is basically a grifter. And what the entity wants from the little girl until she relents is terrifying. There’s a bathroom scene that’s notoriously scary. It looks like the film will just be her in the form of the mom. Boring. I don’t consider any of this spoilers because the film is doing something very different.
