FULL CHAPTER HERE —> AGAINST MY WILL 3
He liked silence.
Not like in an autistic way or nothing, but, Orin Hunter Kelly enjoyed his peace and quiet. It came with being by himself a lot of the time, a solitude he chose.
No matter what his mom had to say about it, it wasn’t weird or anything like that. He liked parties and doing fun shit and hanging out with his friends, but doing all of that was not going to get him the life he wanted.
So, silence was important.
Silence let him focus.
Silence came with hours of calc, coding and Kaggle, all the basics he’d need if he was going to land a career with a total compensation of anything approaching half a mil.
But that was silence for work, entirely different than this fake power play he was being forced to participate in with Patchy the fuckin’ Pirate over here.
That particular pirate-man had gotten a whole two refills to his coffee in the half-hour or so since Orin had been wheeled into this room with a view, some assistant or something in a short skirt not even looking his way as she tipped the decanter into her boss’s mug.
One sip of that third cup and the man seemed to remember that he wasn’t alone in the room all of a sudden, a nineteen-year-old still strapped down with two armed soldiers standing behind him like statues. “Hm…”
He eased the mug from his lips and finally opened them again. “Here I am forgetting my manners, I’m sorry.”
Orin believed that as much as he believed the man had actually gotten into his devices, the man’s talk about ‘a busy few weeks’ sliding past his ears as Orin kept his attention out on the water.
“Would you like some?” That attention slid back for a moment, the teenager’s gaze landing on the lazily extended white mug. “That is, if you drink coffee. Do those ‘Space Smurfs’ of yours let you have any?”
…fuck this guy. Orin sucked his teeth, the sound an audible almost-kiss in the luxuriously laid-out room. “I don’t drink coffee. Bad for your teeth.”
“How responsible…” The older man nodded slow, taking a moment for another sip. “It shows by the way. Your doctor’s done some good work. Braces?”
“Spark Clear Aligners, actually.”
“Haven’t heard of those myself.”
“Great brand, really some custom work.” Orin nodded back, rolling his eyes. “Can we get this over with?”
