A hand went to his stomach, a grumbling loud enough that he could actually feel it through the clothe of his gi. Sky glanced down at it, the aftershocks still going and going and going…
Yo. He tapped his stomach. Chill.
It didn’t chill, the sound quieting a bit but still enough that Sky could feel it going.
He’d been like this since before lunch, a hunger that was way more than just the ‘I skipped lunch’ feeling. No, his stomach was growling like a hibernating bear, body acting like he’d been without food all winter.
Sky still had the taste of three Gigaburgers on his breath too, which made it crazier; six cookies slathered with sugar crystal crust riding the back of all three oversized burgers and a couple still stuck in his back teeth.
And, after even that, he’d had a whole bottle of apple juice shoved in his hand on the way out of the ‘Bone Zone’ and finished it before he made it halfway to SDN.
But now, here he was, walking down a hallway a little after sunset and still hoping beyond all hope that Prism was still around in the lot.
That hope died pretty quick as he made it to a window and saw the sun fully sinking below the horizon. Yeah, prolly gone. The ‘influencer’ — whatever that meant — had already been ready to leave after their dispatch together, talking about some kind of shoot she had tonight as she adjusted her visor in the rearview. She wasn’t bad company, though.
He wasn’t sure what the older woman had done to get her thrown in jail but he doubted it was as bad as some of the others he knew for sure. Doubt it’s murder. Sky shook his head to himself as he kept walking. Don’t think she has that in her.
A loud rumble from his stomach reminded Sky what he didn’t have in him, namely food. Three more burgers. And fries. If he walked quick, he could make it to Gigaburger in under a half-hour no problem. Maybe five burgers.
Honestly, he already knew he should’ve ordered more the first time but Sky already had the feeling he looked like a fat bastard in front of his dispatch partner. Who am I even trying to impress, man? Should’ve gone with six.
