Screaming filled the room, the TV loud as it could get.Some woman in a tube top was tearing across the stage, chair turned over behind her as she made for the back. The camera guy was earning the hell out of his paycheck hus-hus-hustling after her as the audience ohhhhhhed after them both.That’s crazy. A fry was dragged through a McFlurry as he watched her go headfirst through a curtain and collapse on a couch. I mean, third guy? And not the father?At that point, just give up. Right?The fry came to his mouth, salty and sweet vanishing behind his teeth as Orin chewed on pure carbs and sugar aka everything McDonalds had to offer. And in 2002, McDonalds had a lot more to offer.Literally.Fourteen ounces of fries sat in front of him on the bed, two Supersized portions of sliced-up potatoes part of his purchase along with the McFlurry and a burger he’d never even heard of called a… Big n’ Tasty.Granted, the name wasn’t lying so far.The McDonalds down the block had been good to him and the bag full of food was still open next to him along with everything else he’d picked up on today’s shopping trip. Several bags of chips, a fat sleeve of Oreos, a couple more Gatorades, some Almond Joys, and a box of powdered donuts still sat in their bag on the table — mostly because he didn’t see any need in unpacking them anytime soon — along with a roll of Mentos.The Mentos were just a treat.Thirty-six dollars a night and he was eating on his bed in nothing but his boxers and socks like a side character’s deadbeat dad about to come down with diabetes in a bad Netflix show. Living the dream, O-Dawg. He took another spoonful of creamy Oreo goodness. Living the dream.
