FULL CHAPTER HERE —> AGAINST MY WILL 31
…I’m not evil, right? The question of evil — the nature of it, the function of it, who could even be called evil — was a layered one and not one Orin Hunter Kelly could really admit to knowing much about.Even with his oath, it was pretty much subjective.Being honest, he’d probably know more about it he hadn’t kind of cheated in Philosophy 101 freshman year. Apparently, there was a textbook about this exact subject called ‘Beyond Good & Evil’ by some German with a name absolutely designed to murder any motherfucker in a spelling bee. N-I-E-T-Z-S-C-H-E.
He hummed to himself, head tilted. Okay, I guess not any motherfucker.
Either way, past a few necessary skims of the textbook to pass whatever tests and essays the class had, all his knowledge pretty much ended at the guy’s name. Utilitarianism, on the other hand, was where he was pretty good at.Point was, the question only even came up because of what had just happened— green eyes blinking slowly and patiently as he watched Bruce Banner fall from a SHIELD plane to what Orin hoped was his death. He’d almost rushed to save the guy, until he realized just who he was looking at; straitjacket aside, Fury’s voice over comms had made it clear that Banner was the one in freefall. And Orin had just watched it, frozen in the air with a shield around him like nothing else mattered.
Past that first twitch, there hadn’t been a thing else tugging at him; the man’s few seconds of screaming almost putting a smile on his face— a smile that the explosion of a landing had wiped off. Big thud for a small guy. But, of course, it wasn’t a small guy.
Five hundred feet above it all, Green Lantern hung there with a panel below him, trying not to feel disappointed as he watched something too big to be human and too off-color to be Banner climb out of a hole in the Arizona desert.…damn.
