Green came up behind him, green he didn’t put there. The shield was a dense wall, tesselated and beautiful, blooming out of nothing across his back a quarter-instant before the ship’s main gun went off.Orin had that same quarter-instant to form a thought —most of it wasted on what — before the blue took him over. The construct went white at the point of impact, green washed out through the mosaic until the whole surface looked like someone had taken a welding torch to stained-glass. For one long stretched-out instant, the center of the shield bowed in and Orin was almost sure it was going to fail. Then it did.And he went with it.Hundreds of feet through the air, tumbling and turning as his vision was filled with sky and desert and sky again, Orin Kelly flew out of control until he got both hands out to his sides in a near-perfect ‘T’.A panel of green formed under him, this one all him, and Orin stopped hanging crooked in the air. Smoke drifted off his jacket and the rest of him, a fog of jade engulfing him.Which was new.Hell, he didn’t even know the aura could smoke. The Lantern didn’t really have it in him to think much about that, not as he was too busy with the simple fact that everything hurt. Everywhere at once was so sore, like something had taken a bat and just beat him up from the inside out. It definitely didn’t help that his head was ringing and his back teeth were shaking in his jaw on top of that.Alive, though.
