“-issue you a replacement birth certificate, because there’s nothing to replace—”The ball went left, the paddle moving to meet it as Orin made a vague noise.“—ere’s no state record or parent filing or even anything for Vital Statistics to authenticate either there, which is its own prob—”Orin leaned back, elbow on the arm of one chair and four square inches of green floating over his upright palm. The little green game was still ongoing and it was amazing how something this simple could take so much work to animate. Practice makes perfect.
And he was still practicing as the ball came back and the paddle caught it again, pale green eyes narrowed at the construct as he kept his focus firmly on it.The office he sat in was wide and spacious, the air-conditioning going so strong that he was surprised there wasn’t condensation on the glass doors and walls around him.The green ball pinged off again, Orin staring at the thing he’d build about two minutes into the meeting, mostly out of spite and partly out of boredom. Pretty much anything was better than listening, honestly; even something as simple as two paddles with a dotted line down the middle and a simple ball as green as everything else. The ball went right and the paddle went with it— right, left, right again. Pip. Pip. Pip.The left paddle caught the ball that had been going almost all the way past the corner and it still caught it anyway.Green eyes narrowed as Orin let the next one go long. He pushed the next paddle towards the edge, watching as the ball kept going and then—“Oh, that’s bullshit.”The paddle snapped on its own, the paddle moving right back under it. “That’s not even Pong anymore.”A game where you couldn’t lose wasn’t a game. It was more a screensaver than anything and that was only fun for maybe a minute tops of staring. More if you were high, I guess. Orin tilted his head to the other side, eyes sliding down to the ring. Was that you being helpful again?[NEGATIVE].
