He barely saw it coming. That fist rushed out at him with no warning but plenty of tell, Mark’s palms snapping up over his face a few microseconds before it hit home. Ngggh! Even still, all that force went somewhere, raw Viltrumite strength rippling through his forearms and the rest of him in an instant. He didn’t realize before he stopped, too many hundreds of feet later as his heels dripped with seawater that he’d torn a seam through. She… she…Anissa had sent him backwards with one punch, water still choppy just below him as he was already out over open ocean— the cruise ship’s deck much farther away than it had been just a blink ago.Sh-shiiiit. Another blink came with a hiss of air, both Mark’s ears screaming with a hot ache as deep as the bone itself, his shoulders feeling like they’d been shoved down into his ribs if only for a heartbeat. Despite it all, he was still up, still breathing, and still holding altitude as the spray he kicked up finally came back down in a long curtain at his back. The swells still barely looked like swells, water roiling and rippling below him compared to the bright sheet of blue it had been under the four o’clock sun. Nothing broken, too. Mark turned his hands over and over as he closed and opened his fists on top of that. Okay. That’s good. So she’s not too strong. His eyes snapped up into the near distance, a familiar figure in white still visible. Or she could just be taking it easy on me.
His eyes twitched as she just hung there in the wind, hands already behind her back in her parade-rest bullshit. Please don’t let this be her taking it easy on me.The fact that she wasn’t already rushing after him was already making what little hope she had die in his chest, Anissa just staring at him as if expecting him to make the next move.
What? Is this some kind of challenge? Mark clenched his fists tight again, finding his stance as best he could. Are we taking turns? Is this the Viltrumite version of ‘Bloody Knuckles?’Whatever it was, she didn’t come for him. Fine. So, Mark went.
