“Well, you’re all set up now.” The man stood up with a groan, dusting off his knees and the front of his work pants while a little box blinked on the floor next to Orin’s desk. “This little baby should be working real well now.”“...hope so.” A few days of being in this place and Orin was settling in, but he wasn’t exactly calling it home quiet yet. Hopefully, this would go a good distance toward fixing that. “So, remind me…” He raised an eyebrow at the technician from a cable company he’d never heard of — Time Warner — and asked a question he’d been trying to avoid hearing the answer to. “Exactly how fast this is again?”“So, uh… you’re getting a good two megabits per second.” The man didn’t notice the twitch in Orin’s eye, thumbs tucked into his belt. “On your broadband.”“Broadband…” The router he’d bought himself was still blinking back at him, the Linksys he’d gone in fully planning to grab replaced by a Netgear model instead. Can’t believe Netgear has the better specs now… then.
He frowned again at the issue of tenses. God, I hate time travel. With a shake of his head, he looked back at the cable guy. “A whole two, huh?”“Well, you know, on paper. But it’s closer to about 1.5. But that’s real fast, sir. Promise you that what you’re paying for is amazing.” The guy looked pleased as punch, nothing sarcastic or joking about that smile on his face. “You’ve got yourself the fastest residential package on the market right now. Way better than dial-up.”Orin’s attention slid over to the MacBook sitting on his brand-new desk; black and thin and twenty-four years away from home. “Cool.”
