“State your name for the camera, please.”
“Orin Hunter Kelly.”
The camera in question was a big boxy thing, the tripod settling it at eye level to where he sat and the red little light on the front almost daring him into a staring contest. “Thank you. Just one more practice run and we should be good.”
The speaking technician held up a cable thicker than his thumb, the length of wire running out the back of the camera into a box on the floor. Two other men in khakis and lanyards branded with the SHIELD logo kept on fiddling with the camera itself, the same way they’d been doing for the last fifteen minutes or so.
Man, I should have gotten that lawyer. Orin drummed his fingers on the long steel table, the Lantern sitting in a glass-walled conference room with a frown on his face. Honestly, he was doing his best not to look too annoyed but, sitting here in the lower admin floors of the Triskelion, that was a lot harder than it sounded. Really should have.
His eyes roamed the room, all-glass on three sides connected to a wall of blond wood on the fourth and a giant yellow SHIELD eagle bolted to the wood. If SHIELD was good at anything, it was making sure their presence was noticed and felt — which Orin felt was a little odd for a spy agency — even down to the straight-up logo and branding.
They didn’t stop there, of course, six armed agents parked outside the room; two up against each wall of floor-to-ceiling glass. Yeah, cause guns are gonna do anything to me.
