Orin knew what big was. He’d been in orbit a few times, after all.
The sight of Earth from space or the moon alone above the skybox was enough to give you the best kind of perspective on how small you were.
Or the worst, if you hadn’t ever really thought that far outside yourself.
Hell, the sun alone… Seeing the sun from space was enough to let you know exactly why so many societies worshipped it. Being entirely honest, if Orin didn’t know Big Sol was just a ball of gas, he’d probably be doing jumping jacks like Solaire of Astora.
All of those things were big, but something about the Hulk somehow made him feel no less massive. Maybe it was the distance — the lack of it, at least — or something the fuck else, but Orin suddenly had the idea that nothing else could compare.
It had to duck.
Orin’s first impression of the massive gray monster close-up was the fact that it had to duck to get through the space it had created in the already-oversized blast door. A hole in a doorway that a normal person could have walked through normally with a child on their shoulders and it had to duck to get through.
Even doing that, its shoulders scraped both sides of the door that hadn’t gone flying with the first slab and the steel gave way. Another hand came to join the first, gripping at the edge of the wall with cracked nails yellowed and inch-thick atop fingers the size of Orin’s wrist. The wall gave under a simple squeeze, metal squealing and folding under those fingers like aluminum foil.
The hole peeled back, getting bigger and bigger, until the rest of him came through.
Like the last time Orin had seen the Hulk, he was gray.
