Just started watching so I don't know what your ending thoughts are yet, but I don't think this finale is as bad as some say it is. Dexter is a story of tragedy, so this finale works for that. I know this may be a hot take for some, but it's just my opinion. I'm not saying it's a good finale by any means though.

C. J. Ramirez

Hated this episode. I’m ok with Deb dying but the only mistake Dexter made was leaving Saxon for Deb and the cops he should have dealt with it himself. I did not like him faking his death I wanted him to move with Hannah and Harrison and live happily

Max Cherry

How would you compare this to got ending

J-DEV TV

I like this ending better than GoT.

Ethan furness

What a Journey! Can not fucking wait for new blood and resurrection 🔥

Kyn

I know lot of people have some issues with the episode which i do too. But one thing i don’t agree with people is that dexter shouldn’t have unplugged because when Camille died, Debra asked him if she was ever like that, just pull the plug. Quinn Debra and Dexter were the best thing about it. My issue with some of this episode was where was Masuka?. They don’t really wrap up the characters.

Mochalover99

I feel like the ending isn’t as bad as people make it seem, but that’s probably because I know it’s followed with New Blood.

Tomaskooo

You gotta love Joey It was obviously a self defense Quinn

Tomaskooo

Fun fact: dexter finale aired almost at the same time as breaking bad finale, they were only a week apart

Ben Dotson

I think you'll really like New Blood and Resurrection!

Tomaskooo

Those two are goated but prequel has major plotholes :( Not gonna say anything until then, but that one hurts.

Monica Alfaro

I seen Dexter so many times, and the ending always gets me. I liked the ending. We can make them all happy 🥲 resurrection is what i heard was great.

J-DEV TV

Excellent reaction. 96 episodes went by quick. Only 30 more left to get caught up. Sounds like we have a very similar ranking for the show.

BSteppa

Have we not agreed that he would skip the prequel ;-; Him watching that slop will just make it take so long to get to peak

MovieFusion

I thinks this ending is better than GOT, solely because at least I know there's more coming after. The problem with GOT's ending was how rushed it was. Felt like 3 seasons worth of stuff happened in 6 episodes. Whereas with Dexter, I just felt unsatisfied with this, but more stuff afterwards can make up for it.

Ready for Dexter: New Blood!

Janet

Showtime wouldn't let them kill him off. Do you remember in season 3 when Camilla was dying and Deb said "don't let me suffer, I would never let you suffer". Jennifer Carpenter asked the writers to kill her off. She said she didn't want to spend years as Deb, she wanted to be able to put it to bed. Supposedly he sent himself in to self imposed exile after he survived the storm. Those of us who never thought the show would come back after season 8, the ending was horrible. We had no idea 9 years later they would bring it back but I was so glad. Resurrection is SO much better than New Blood

Despite some messy things this episode I did always like it personally. I appreciate that the show didn't have to end with Dexter being caught, because that's the conventional approach that everyone expects. Plus the show was more about Dexter grappling with the struggles of his double life more than him evading the law for said double life. Not saying that's not an important part of this show but I dunno, I always liked this ending. Definitely not perfect, I think in theory it's a fantastic way to end but it was very mishandled unfortunately. They gotta let him get caught for good though at some point now that they've brought the show back twice. Either way ngl I was more excited to get past this episode so we can get to New Blood, I love that season and can't wait to see what you think of it.

So I didn't want to have to post about Dexter again, but I decided to wait until the finale. The Dexter finale was (just in my opinion) the worst finale I've ever see. I know people probably won't agree with me on that and I completely understand. However, a lot of things that the creators of the series did just didn't make sense to me. First off, it seemed like the Daniel (Saxon) character had no significance to the story anymore. We were supposed to accept that Vogel was an important character and I thought the series would analyze her son's relationship with her in greater detail. That, unfortunately, didn't happen because he killed her. Killing off Deb didn't make sense to me at all because her significance to the series was very important. Dexter taking his boat into a storm and disappearing only to be working some place else was the stupidest way to end a series! Nothing was learned, nothing made sense. He also leaves his child with Hannah. Don't get me wrong, I know she has supposedly changed, but wasn't Elway still after her?! And yet she just injects him and end of story on that? Okay then. They also made Dexter decide to abandon his family (Harrison and Hannah). I thought Dexter was a smart character throughout the series and now all of the sudden he makes stupid decisions and we're left ending a series that way?!!!! This episode alone ruined a lot in the series for me and I was so disappointed when I first saw it years ago. However, I look forward to Dexter: Resurrection because I hear that it ties up loose ends from the Dexter finale and it's getting positive reviews. That's a good thing. I look forward to watching it, for the first time, during your reactions. :)

Zwopt

dexter was gonna kill maria for simply knowing who he was, hannah did the same thing with sal, makes sense why dex would understand

Derek

loved watching this from start to finish with you. great reaction as always and looking forward to whatever show you start next

Andrew

The prequel is great the casting and story is top tier

Lord Stirling

People hate the ending but it makes sense psychologically to me! Dexter is punishing himself for getting his loved ones killed by sentencing himself to a penance of torment by constant exposure to the sounds of CHAINSAWS, which killed his mother. Like Trinity, he chose not to kill in a timely manner and it resulted in the death of a close loved one. So Dexter noticed the pattern, and decided Harrison would be safer without him.

Lord Stirling

Yup. Rule #1 is “Don’t get caught”, not “Don’t kill innocents”.

Lord Stirling

Thanks for covering Dexter in full. Was fun seeing your reactions to the things we all already knew happened. Hilarious! Don’t forget to check out “Person of Interest” and “CHUCK”. You’ll thank me later 😉👊🏼

Lord Stirling

Good callback to Deb saying that regarding Camilla. That hit me while rewatching. Definitely an important foreshadow that played out in the end.

Lord Stirling

As a series ending, this is less than desired. I say Dexter MUST be caught and end in the electric chair. But knowing that there’s more after S8, this finale is fine. However, as the original planned series ending, it was a missed opportunity for all of Miami Metro to find out about Dexter and take the S2 plot to the next level.

Dražen Žunić

One of the best endings in tvshow ever I dont know what people expected Even yourself didnt expect any of that and i think thats what makes the whole show great

Lord Stirling

Superb acting by Desmond Harrington in this episode 🙏🏼 Can really feel Quinn’s pain.

Lord Stirling

😂😂 He was particularly great in this episode, imo!

GGs Man thanks for your reactions you're awesome. Happy Valentine's day for you and your gf, I've seen the community post about your dog, it's sad but you still have to stay strong and be there for each-other. I personally liked this finale. Emotional roller-coaster with Deb, noooo she is dying, yeeees she is fine, WAIT no no noooo she is basically dead now, she was shot the same in season 2, magically made it thru, but not the second time. Dexter taking her off the life support machine, which is the season 3 reference when Camilla was dying Deb said that she wants Dexter to turn it off if something happens and that she would do the same for him, season 4 with dexter hesitates to kill someone and loses a person he cares about to him, nothing changed. Dexter didn't learned from his mistake... Classic Dexter's "I hurt everyone around me" But unlike season 5, season 2 there wasn't anyone to tell him that he's wrong, he's wanted and he's needed. Waiting for spin-offs they are great, but original sin is original sin

D

Cant wait for new blood

Sami

Dexter resurrection is my favorite spinoff. Refraining from sharing why but let’s just say you’ll have. A great time

S

I don’t think this episode is as bad as it’s made out but then again, I watched this after new blood came out

Liam Lacey

Unfortunately I was spoiled to the ending before I finished the series. I was told Dexter kills his sister and becomes a lumberjack, now without context that sounds like a bad ending but somehow by the time I finished the show the ending was some how worse. I despise this season, I dunno how its possible for the same show to have the best season of TV (season 4) and the worst season of TV (season 8) because this show was about how great its character writing was and for me this season almost betrays everyone's character especially Deb, she deserved way better than what she got. After years of thinking on it this is my ideal ending. I loved the season 7 finale and I thought they needed to capitalise on it more in season 8. Deb shooting Laguerta should've sent her on even more of a downward spiral than she did to the point that she fit Dexters code, maybe even making it more personal by killing Hannah and I personally would've ended the season with a similar scene to Dexter killing Brian in season 1 but instead of Dexter killing Deb he ultimately let's her go and turns himself in, giving his sister a second chance (given that she deserves one) and suffering the consequences for what he's done.

Jakub Kowalczyk

Watching your dexter reactions has been great. God I cant wait for you to see new blood or ressurection. There is many stuff there I just cant wait for you to see. Just wondering, are you gonna make a little break from dexter or are you gonna jump right into the spin offs?

Tyler N

Exactly. Resurrection is absolutely fantastic

Brandon

please can you react to dexter new blood soon

Chris K

Make sure to watch in this order: New Blood, then Original Sin, then Resurrection

Staineless

I have to say, as somebody who watched this on release I never thought it was that bad. Wasn't my favourite season at the time, that was obviously 4, followed by 5, but it was alright, certainly better than 6. The ending, I thought was okay. Could have been better but a lot of the points that annoy people just don't for me. I thought it was good of Dexter to take himself out of his son's life, because he already destroyed the lives of Doakes, Laguerta, Rita and Deborah, also Harry too. Miguel may not have become a killer without Dexter, so Ellen Wolf is on him too. He did a lot of good and a lot of bad, the bad just fell on those near him. People complain that Deb deserved better, and she did, but so what? So did Rita, and Laguerta, and Doakes. Bad things happen to the best people so while I would rather she lived, I think it's a fine thing to happen in a final episode. The spin-offs are all fantastic. Personally I think you should watch them in the order of New Blood, Original Sin and then Resurrection. It's the order they released in and makes sense canonically.

AlexBoss

The episode was ok. I understood all the choices they made despite disagreeing with them. I mean it makes sense to have Deb be his "final victim" and make him come to the realization that he needs to take himself out, to keep his loved ones safe. I get that. I would not however have him punished just when he decides to turn things around. Usually i prefer that when characters choose to try and grow and turn things around for them, for it to make sense and not say "... well tough luck. Too late." Not to mention that the way they framed these last two episodes it almost seems to say that if Dexter didn't start feeling these human emotions and didn't start to want to do the "right things", none of the bad stuff would have happened. And so in a sense he was punished for finally trying to be more human. I disagree with that. But i get that. It is a choice that at least makes sense.

AlexBoss

However the final two minutes of the show make no sense whatsoever. So they are telling me that despite realizing that he himself is the monster that threatens his loved ones (that is how he justified it in his mind) he lacks the courage to kill himself? Instead he comes up with this elaborate scheme to make everyone believe he died and just spend his life being a lumberjack? What? So he decides to live and knowingly let his son be raised without his father and also to be frank, he put the burden of raising his son to Hannah (without her agreeing to do it alone) and he just bails?? That is probably one of the most cowardly decisions i have seen a main character in a show take. That destroyed for me Dexter's legacy. Whatever else they decided to show afterwards, would always be marred by this awful awful creative decision.

KDoggRN

It's not that he didnt have the courage to kill himself. He didnt believ he deserved that easy way out. He instead condemned himself to a life with no human connection and no inner monologue. He is isolated, in self imposed exile.

KDoggRN

Deb has said that she never wants to exist like that and Dexter should take her out if she ever winds up like that. So he wasnt going to leave her like that. He also put her in a place that he always found peaceful.

KDoggRN

It was a fitting end for Dexter. He is alone and isolated from anyone he loves.

KDoggRN

Jennifer Carpenter asked for Deb to die in the end. She didnt want her to survive. They were going to have Dexter die in the storm, but Showtime/Paramount wouldnt allow him to be killed. Not the writers' fault.

Scott Kerr

Nonetheless, it was an extremely disappointing finale in my opinion.

KDoggRN

He didnt believe that he deserved that and believed that he would only bring tragedy to Hannah and Harrison. It was the "they're better off without me" logic.

Magnus Karlsson

LOL "Can we see what is happening with Deb, is she okay?"

Adonis Turner

Nothing happens for 11 episodes then Deb Dies. It’s lame. Anything good that did happen was undone within a couple of episodes. The manhunt Dexter deserves is given to Hannah McKay, a character that shouldn’t even be alive.

Adonis Turner

Dexter never gave Trinity to the police so it’s not the same thing.

Adonis Turner

It does age better knowing it’s not an ending. I hadn’t thought about that.

Adonis Turner

17:20 I don’t like much about season 8 except for Zach Hamilton but the little callbacks throughout the episode are fun. Hurricane Laura is referencing Dexter’s mom.

Adonis Turner

25:40 keep this all in mind. They decided to kill Deb off because Dexter gave up his Dark passenger. I don’t think I have EVER seen a main character be punished for character growth. Usually protagonists are punished for their mistakes.

Adonis Turner

I’m a big Dexter fan for the most part but the idea of Dexter not being revealed to the world as the BHB is unacceptable. Self exile only works (for me) AFTER the manhunt.

Adonis Turner

They all have some major issues which makes the premise not work. Not really original sin so much.

Adonis Turner

How do we know Hannah won’t poison Harrison? She was totally okay with poisoning Deb. To make matters worse, If Dexter had killed Hannah in season 7-Deb would be alive.

Adonis Turner

Idk man, if they wanted to kill Deb off whilst being exclusively Dexter’s fault, they should of did it in episode 4 of this season when she tried to kill them both. Everything that happens in episode 11 and episode 12 is more tied to Hannah McKay than it is Dexter. Doesn’t work for me. Great reaction nonetheless, your denial about Deb made it more sad than when I first watched it.
