PEAK PEAK PEAK

A few episodes ago when some random guy asked if the seat next to dexter at the restaurant was free and you asked "Whos that?" It was Brian

Nevermind he remembered

The show was renewed for Season 2 so the story was always meant to continue but the new senior leadership team at Paramount/Showtime decided to cancel it so they could focus on Resurrection instead. No idea why they felt they couldn’t do both especially after Original Sin became Showtime’s highest streamed premiere, which was eventually surpassed by Resurrection. The showrunner revealed on a podcast that Season 2 would’ve introduced young versions of Doakes & Matthews & the central arc would’ve been the relationship between Dexter & Brian.

So epic. I love that they did that

So frustrating! This show was great!

Makes sense that it’s Michael C. Hall doing the narration, because he’s narrating a flashback at his current age, in Iron Lake, NYC, in critical condition after being shot by Chief Angela Bishop 🔥 But yeah, I agree, this actor is doing a great job as Dex. And Michael C. Hall doing the voiceover seems to me like an endorsement of his job playing young Dex.

I think in all the “present day” Dexter series, Dexter’s inner monologue is in the present tense. And in this one, it’s all past tense. Subtle, but intentional. “Tonight’s the night. And it’s going to happen again and again.” for instance.

Lord Stirling

Novels are usually written in past tense, and screenplays are written in present tense. Just an interesting parallel. The difference between telling a story and experiencing an event as it unfolds. Hearing a tale of some happening vs seeing it with your own eyes happening.

The drums and electric guitar in the ascending “Tonight’s the Night” piano motif when Dex is taking blood donations was 🔥

To me the strongest part of this prequel is for sure the Brian focused parts, and I was super excited for whatever they might have done with him in season 2, so was kinda annoyed they ended up canceling it despite the initial renewal.

Almon

It’s just one season because they wanted to focus on resurrection more

I think it makes sense how laguerta easily forgot, it was a quick glance at one note 15 years ago that didn't relate to any of her cases.
