This episode is so dark, I love the implications.and the complete and utter failure of the plan is sick. its crazy to me that the mission has now failed, yet we have 39 episodes left until we are done with whole cake. I wonder how its going to feel re-watching this part as my memory of watching this (not in one pace) is of it being very slow. Hoping thats just me being caught up at the time and having to wait a week between each episode.

Mother Carmel wasnt a witch she had the soul-soul fruit before Big Mom did. Its also implied that Linlin lost control eating her birthday cake and literally ate everyone there, and eating Mother Carmel granted her the Devil fruit ability

Linlin ate the kids and carmel. Carmel was the original user of the soul-soul fruit and showing linlin having the power afterwards was to imply, that she got the power directly from eating the previous user, like a make-shift devil fruit

I was yelling at my screen for two episodes. If it isn't written out on a post it with a string this guy doesn't understand context. They went through the effort to make the same homie and all of a sudden Lin Lin has the power. If he doesn't keep yapping over important stuff when the giant returns back he might catch those things. But no, let's just say Carmel is a witch for no reason.

Never underestimate Jack's ability to miss important dialogue that explains things while he's screaming at the monitor hahaha. In Jack's defense, if you miss the narrator line about Linlin's tears obstructing her vision while she eats, the scene otherwise doesn't make it super obvious. They probably felt like they had to hold back a bit given that it's a show primarily aimed at young teens.

lol yeah but the show still made it obvious in some ways, if jack was locked in he would’ve noticed the giant calling her a monster, streusen the chef taking 2 steps back when big mom tried to walk up to him, getting her devil fruit, the narrator saying it made them hate linlin more, jack wasn’t paying attention for a while, but tbf he’s gotta talk, that’s why I always rewind when I watch one piece😂

I also have a personal theory that as Lin lin ate Mother Carmel, it's part of the reason why she becomes vulnerable when Carmel's picture is threatened, like maybe the former owner of the soul soul fruit still lives a little bit inside her.

Since Jack already knew this, seeing his tweet that he figured it out about Big Mom ate the children and Mother Carmel, It's actually interesting to know that there is a possibility if someone eat a certain devil fruit eater, they will possess that power too. Since Mother Carmel is a Soul-Soul fruit eater, and Linlin took that power after she ate her. Oh, and the one that broke the launcher was probably, her conqueror haki.

I hope we get to see Jack have some sudden realization on camera haha. I'm sure you know this already and it just slipped your mind, but only one person can have a specific devil fruit at a time. Linlin having the soul-soul fruit is already proof of Mother Caramel's death who was the previous user of that fruit. If a DF user dies, DF's seem to respawn to the nearest piece of fruit. From this backstory we also see that if you consume someone who has a DF, then you apparently gain their DF powers as if you ate the fruit. Morbid.

I'm going to be honest, I'm with Luis on this one. This is my first time watching this part of the anime and I underestimated how much less clear the anime makes Big Mom's dietary proclivities. If I was anime-only I would probably have missed it on my first watch of the episode as well. I mean, I probably wouldn't have drawn the same conclusions as Jack but I would've been confused as hell. Now... the soul-soul fruit connection on the other hand. Well, we all have our off-days guess. xD

Somewhere in the last few arcs, Jack started focusing more on energetically over-reacting than actual comprehension of the story. It's becoming way too frequent that he completely misses something that was just told or recently told, but then screams when he still doesn't get it. This far in, he sees someone with an ability and goes straight to calling the person a witch. SMDH. It was fun seeing his energy when he was vested in the story, but this ain't it....

I've been watching Jack for several years and he has literally always been this way more or less lol. Sometimes reactors will miss things despite their best efforts, I don't think this is a matter of Jack not being focused enough. I also was surprised that he didn't understand what happened, but who cares? He understands most of the time. This is a reaction series with hundreds of episodes, so he is gonna miss some things. He still has much better comprehension than most reactors, so personally I find your standards to be unreasonably high. You're entitled to your opinion but I think you are overblowing this a bit. Jack being invested and engaged with the story is far more important than him understanding every last detail anyway.

Hard agree with DiamonDust here. I've also been following Jack's journey for a while and Jack definitely catches far more than the average reactor, in fact I'd say he often catches more than the average watcher in general. You have to understand that anyone who would subscribe to a Patreon just to watch somebody else watch a series they've already watched is probably a superfan, meaning all of us undoubtedly have an ironclad knowledge of the series from years of reading and being in the community. But if you ever talk to a casual fan of One Piece, which I know a few, most of them forget details all the time, sometimes details that are so integral to arcs that I can't believe they could be forgotten. Some people even forget what order the arcs are in and what characters are in which arcs. But that's reality. Not everybody has the time or the energy to invest into fully integrating a fictional story into their brains. Jack certainly misses things sometimes, and occasionally big things, but at the end of the day he's far more attentive than people give him credit for. I've literally considered going back and making a compilation of every time Jack has managed to predict EXACTLY what is about to happen through the sheer fact that he's so invested in the series that he knows exactly how Oda likes to write things. It happens literally all the time, and is very impressive given he isn't even reading the manga. Of course I wish I could see Jack's reaction to realizing Big Mom ate everyone (apparently he tweeted about realizing it eventually) but to be fair, in both the manga and anime it was pretty unclear as to what happened to everyone right away. It's supposed to be a "coming to a horrific conclusion" type twist, not a "sudden reversal" twist like "Raizo is safe". People talk about Big Mom eating everyone so often online that its easy to forget that the way its portrayed in the actual series is pretty vague. It's easy to miss if one is watching casually, or in this case, hyper-fixating. My theory is that when Jack misses things in the story its usually because so much is going on in his head (notice how many theories he tries to put together since the beginning of Big Mom's flashback) that he misses a connection right in front of him. At the end of the day, I much prefer someone who is constantly analyzing and trying to anticipate the story than someone who just sits there and reacts to what's happening. Hence, I don't really get upset when Jack misses stuff though I often get mad at other reactors for missing obvious things. Jack isn't lazy or stupid, he's just consumed by the story like all of us were the first time we read/watched it.

@Takeo Ryuu Full agree on everything you said, you worded this excellently. Especially with how it is entertaining to hear Jack's thoughts and theories even when they are sometimes flawed, it still shows that he is analytical about the content he consumes. Plus his predictions are often pretty spot on and he seems to have a good sense of Oda's writing style as you said. I feel like people just only pay attention to when he misses stuff, cause I am very impressed overall with his reactions and general analysis of each episode. I think it was clear he just missed Linlin eating them all because of the subtle nature of it (OP is usually not very subtle for important details) and the fact that he was already locked into other theories about what happened and thus did not notice hints that came later. Which is something he could potentially be more cognizant of (to not fully commit to assumptions or theories in his head if what happened is not obvious), but that is a very natural human behavior when consuming media and I would not consider it a con necessarily. I do that sometimes, too, as a first watcher of other anime. It happens. I like when reactors voice their thoughts, theories, and opinions. If they make some questionable assumptions or predictions occasionally then it is still fine, it does not bother me.
